Voting in the Election

Post by Coito ergo sum » Mon Nov 05, 2012 3:08 pm

I haven't voted yet!!!

Thank you to all you folks who kindly waited in 2+ hour lines for the convenience of "early voting!" I'm expecting to head to the polls on the way to the office tomorrow at 6:55am, and be done voting by 7:10am. Thanks again, to all those who wasted their weekends so they didn't have to vote on election day!

On Tuesday, we'll have many more polling places open, and only about 1/2 the electorate voting!

I wonder how many of those people actually needed to do the early voting?
We danced.

Almost none. The polls are open 7am to 7pm. If even 1/4 of the electorate were too busy to squeeze voting into a 12 hour period, our country would have not be having the problems we have today.

I don't get it. In 2008, I voted on election day and I waited 20 minutes. In 2010, I went to the poll to early vote the Saturday before the election and the line was abominable, so I went and had a nice lunch with SWMBO'd instead. I voted on election day without waiting at all, except for 10 minutes because I got there before the polls opened.

I've never ever had to wait to vote. The folks on the registration tables have always look pretty pleased to see someone walk in, actually.

I bet a lot of people don't realize their employers have to allow them time to go vote. Lots of people like nurses work 7a-7p. And, Indiana's polls close at 6 pm.
We danced.

The longest I've waited in line was around an hour.
We danced.

Never had a problem voting at the megachurch. 60% from the district will vote for Akin holding their nose. All those and more also for Romney.

Many states do have such laws. They don't apply to most people, because most of the laws don't require the employer to do anything if the employee has 2 hours before or 2 hours after his or her shift ends giving them time to vote. But, many states do have laws that require, if an employee, say, has a 12 hour shift that day, they have to be given sufficient time to enable them to vote.

The following states do not have time-off-to-vote laws: Connecticut, Delaware, Florida, Idaho, Indiana, Louisiana, Maine, Michigan, Mississippi, Montana, New Hampshire, New Jersey, North Carolina, Oregon, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Vermont and Virginia.

I wonder if we'll break 60% in voter turnout this year? Haven't done that since 1968, when Nixon beat Johnson.

That was the last Presidential election I didn't vote in. Because I couldn't.
