Navy Testing Robot Boats

It won't be too many years before we have soldiers manning computer terminals and driving boats and airplanes "virtually" - and I suppose even robot tanks and other large and small vehicles on land. Can we eliminate the infantry soldier? At least in the "kick in the doors" phase? I could see remote military action disabling defenses and taking out command, control, communications, supply and manufacturing, and then soldiers can parachute in with mops and brooms.

We've had remote controlled boats for years. This is just a drone in the water. I saw a boat rigged to run by remote back in 1975.

This reminds me of one of the old, original Star Treks. Wars were fought virtually, and whoever the computer calculated as being KIA were executed. Some of the horrendous side effects of war were avoided, but so was the aversion to war. Therefore, that particular planet was always engaged in war.

Anybody else read the story about the battle of Armageddon?

Seems we found out it was actually going to happen, and the military guys built all this robots to fight the forces of Satan. The 'bots won the battle. Then the heavens opened up, angels came down, and the 'bots were borne bodily into Heaven, leaving the humans behind. :hehe:
