I mean - he had cameras there. Were there a shortage of cameras following Obama around for his photo ops? Did he actually DO anything when he "surveyed the damage?" Of course not. Anything he did there, he could have done from the White House or anywhere else.
Of course they both had cameras rolling - they want the coverage and favorable press. I give them both credit for also wanting to help, though.

Second storm to hit the North East

On top of all of the damage and power outages caused by Hurricane Sandy, the Weather Channel is warning that a nor’easter bound storm may be bound for New England.
The storm could hit as early as Election Day, according to a preliminary forecast from the National Weather Service.
A storm on top of a storm is definitely not a good thing and the Weather Channel stated, “At this time it looks as though coastal impacts would be farther north along the New England coast than we saw with Sandy. Snowfall would be confined to northern New England.”
So basically, areas that weren’t hit as hard by Sandy might be victim to this upcoming storm.
http://blogs.wsj.com/metropolis/2012/11 ... _news_blogThe plan was to use a handcrank to slowly turn the 45-ton crane and the dangling boom below until it faced the building, an operation that was to take many hours. But the crane moved much faster than expected, and by 9 a.m. workers could be seen weaving steel cables through the boom and around thick concrete columns.
