Re: Duck and cover = Perfect Storm a comin'
I went to a Lowes to get a carpet mat to protect the floor from my office chair. When I went to check out, there were at least ten people buying generators. That was just in the few minutes I was in the store. Now they have to go buy gas cans and gas, which will sit around and create fumes. Unless they all have a side of beef in the freezer, I can't see the point.

Weather forecast here just says rain and occasional gusts of wind the next few days. But schools are already closed, according to my mother

People think "queue" is just "q" followed by 4 silent letters.
But those letters are not silent.
They're just waiting their turn.

Wow, they are closing down the *entire* DC Metro system at midnight tonight, including all trains and buses. Federal office are closed Monday, along with a lot of other government offices.

On the positive side you may be able to scuba around the DC subway.

Yeah, I don't underdtand why the DuPont Circle Metro station entrance is open to the sky. It's gotta get pounded by this and snow.PordFrefect wrote:On the positive side you may be able to scuba around the DC subway.
Bottom of the longest escalator I've ever seen - in the station, looking up:

I told you about the elevators. I walked up one of those once just to see if I'd be dead at the top.

Apparently it filled up with snow like a huge snowcone during the last big snow here.

I just moved to DC to find work in the A/E business, selling A/E design services.
There are interesting specialties. For example, there is at least one architecture and engineering (A/E) firm here that has a business unit featured on their website that is named Post Conflict Reconstruction. They go in after a war and rebuild.
Hurricane Sandy is forecast to do a billion dollars in damage in the area between DC and NYC.
Hurricane damage is a lot like a war...
