This would never happen if we had gotten those domed, evenly climatized cities they promised us...laklak wrote:Nope. You're doomed. Time to move someplace safe that doesn't get hurricanes, like Florida.Ian wrote: Personally, I think this storm is being over-hyped.

Re: Duck and cover = Perfect Storm a comin'
Well, it's gray and sort of windy and still all at once-- that weird pre-storm atmosphere.
I went to the store this morning and stocked up on water, baby supplies, canned foods, and so forth-- got so much I had to have it delivered. Then I bought fancy coffee and a pastry for my honey and we went home to have breakfast with him.
Then sprog and I went to the playground, because who knows when he'll have a chance to play outside again-- might be a while. I'm trying to stave off the stir crazy. We'll see how it goes.
A few other families were there, with similar plans. One woman told me they'd confirmed that the MTA is going to be shut down from 7 tonight until further notice. And I saw that all the city parks and beaches are all closed between 2 and 5 this afternoon.
I asked the woman if she was stocked up. She shrugged and said they still had supplies left over from Irene (I think the danger here is that we all really battened down the hatches for Irene, which turned out not to be so bad here-- so peole are assuming it'll be more of the same.) But she said she wasn't worried, because they have plenty of wine.
Damn. One thing I forgot to stock up.

Be safe, Hades. You're in an apartment building up north of Central Park, right? I expect you'll be fine, but it will probably sound scary, and you may lose power. Hopefully your building has a backup generator and such.
Make sure you have a battery operated or crack charged radio, and bulk food. A battery operated DVD player might help, especially if you have a few extra batteries to give you some entertainment time. But, moreso than that some portable lighting with extra batteries - that way you can at least see, read and whatnot. You'll want the radio for sure, to allow you to get information. It'll drive you crazy not to know anything. Remember, your cell phones will die down quickly and can't be recharged without a portable crank charger or a generator or something, if your power goes out.

Fact follows fiction. Why does it always happen to New York?

What will the world be like after its ruler is removed?

New York City issuing widespread evacuation orders.
Hades, you may want to look into this.
That being said, I have a friend in the Lauderdale area who evacuated one of the last times they were going to get hit. So, he drove off somewhere, and thedamn thing changed direction and hit him where he ran off to....

It should start raining here within the next hours or two. By dinnertime, it should be a deluge.
