It'll probably hit the coast Monday evening, give or take.

Nah. Apparently all the supplies I bought the other day weren't enough, so my wife went to the store today and stocked up more. We're prepared for armageddon here.

Personally, I think this storm is being over-hyped. :hmph:

I'm up on the third floor. What does one stock up on to throw down to the ravening hordes?

Yep, this is the stuff coming in from the northeast. Sandy isn't even here yet.

Our first taste of the northern half of the storm....Trans-Canada Highway cut up along Lake Superior

The front is just moving through here now - very well defined. Heading South East where it will dance with Sandy

Neat! I wonder why the second photo looks like it was taken with a camera from the 60s?

They do seem to hype a lot, and I hope for your sake that they are overhyping it.

But, the winds seem pretty powerful, and there are strong winds extending 500 miles. Chicago announced a storm surge warning from Lake Michigan, and that's 800 miles away, give or take. And, I heard a report that 20 foot waves may be hitting the south side of Long Island and they're talking 11-12 foot storm surges. This ought to raise an eyebrow. I hope you have a generator. If you can shutter your windows, do so, because there will be flying debris. Take all loose or loosely secured items from outside and bring them inside. If you haven't done so already, verify that your gutters and downspouts are clear of debris and affix extensions onto the end of the downspouts to move water away from the house. Remove pictures from the walls, especially near windows and fireplaces.

If it gets really bad, put the kids in the bath tubs. Stay in the innermost portion of the house, like in an internal hallway, and stay away from windows. Unplug electrical appliances during the storm. If it starts getting really bad, you may as well shut the breakers and turn the gas valve off (if you have natural gas). In fact, you should shut them off it starts getting bad -- cut the gas off at any tank or shutoff valve that you have.

Get a big roll of contractor plastic, or if they are out, get those tough contractors garbage bags and a bunch of duct/duck ( :{D ) tape in case any windows break or you need to patch something during the storm. If you can get ahold of big tarps and ropes, do so, in case you lose some shingles. Lumber and plywood would be handy if you have the space.

Also, get your camera charged up and take pictures of the house now, before the storm, documenting its condition. Then you can take pictures after the storm to document post storm condition for any insurance claims.

Good luck and may the Force be with you.

Nope. You're doomed. Time to move someplace safe that doesn't get hurricanes, like Florida.
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.
