Ouch 7.7 quake of west coast Canada

A magnitude 7.7 earthquake hit off the B.C. coast on Saturday night, in the area of Haida Gwaii, the U.S. Geological Survey has reported.

The quake was centered 198 kilometres south-southwest of Prince Rupert at a depth of 10 km, the USGS said.

Tsunami Warning Huzzah! Glad I'm about 300km east of the mainland coast off Haida Gwaii. I sure wouldn't want to be on one of the Ferries right now.

It's mostly native reservations over there. It would be hard to tell which damage was caused by the earthquake and which by the residents....

I did construction on several reservations. Five years and the house is unlivable. Very rarely do they spend anything for upkeep. Or cleaning. Result= mold!

I think actually, being at sea is the safest place. A sunami is usually not much more than a foot high in deep water. It's when it gets to shallow water that the big wave builds up.
I wouldn't fancy being in dock on a ferry when it arrived. You could get carried inland for a few miles, and rolled over and over.
