De Bait 3

They will be arguing about some consulate in Libya and the militia or terrorists and what was said in the Rose Garden.

Romney will be pushing for "leading" the fight for...whatever. Which means not asking allies before you act. Obama will be arguing stay the course, pull out of Afghanistan.

Opinion:
But the reality is also that we have spent billions of dollars in two
wars over the last 12 years, and President Obama has kept his promise
to bring those wars to an end and to focus his effort on keeping
America safe.

So how does Mitt Romney get an edge over the president in a foreign
policy debate? My view is that he must simply look like a commander in
chief for the future. In an effort to distinguish himself from Obama,
Romney has made some big mistakes with regard to foreign policy.

Romney's biggest mistake may simply be in his attitude. In short, he
acts like a leader from the 1950s who is still trying to prove to the
world that America is not just the best country, but the boss of the
world. And in 2012, that just doesn't fly. Are we the leader of the
free world? Yes. Are we a nation that should continue to share our
democratic values with the world? Yes. Can we control everything that
happens in the world? No -- and we shouldn't try. Simply put, we can't
afford it and we don't need to.

So when Romney blusters on about how much tougher he would be than
Obama, in an effort to distinguish a foreign policy that isn't very
distinguishable, he should pay careful attention to the fact that were
he to be president, acting so aggressively would carry expectations
that he follow through. And the American people do not want a
president who picks fights around the world.

Commentators said Romney could not stand and walk around, preventing him from playing the alpha male.

I didn't see Romney looking very presidential. He seemed to stutter and backpedal a lot. Obama was on the attack again, but I suspect he may have been a little too aggressive when he kept interrupting Romney. Kinda wish he hadn't done that, but we'll see how it works out in the polls, I reckon.

I was glad to see Obama hit on a point I've mentioned in previous threads here in regards to the number of ships in the US Navy. The entire point of a more technologically advanced military is that we can do more with fewer pieces of hardware.

Yeah, it's not a game of Battleships, like Obama pointed out. The side with the largest number of weapons doesn't always win. The side that fights smarter usually does. Vietnam, for example.

Romney apparently believes in the tactic that if you repeat a lie often enough, people will think it must be true. He's been repeating this talking point for ages: http://www.politifact.com/truth-o-meter ... ama-began/

All in all I'd say Romney got pretty well whupped in that debate. All the polls I've seen so far have been clear victories for Obama - even Fox News at the moment shows Obama winning by a good margin. The real question, of course, is the same as after the first debate: what was really won? Enough undecideds? Independents? Virginians with strong ties to the DoD? Enthusiasm among Democrats? We'll see how much the polls budge (if at all) over the next week or so...

Yeah, CNN's fact-checking team just re-re-re-debunked that one. Obama never apologized for a thing on that trip.
