http://www.ihtworld.com/wp/index.php/le ... -resident/Written By Robert Welsh
My name is Robert Welsh and I am writing this not to the people who are fans of President Obama.
Instead I’m writing to the people who have yet to make a decision concerning which presidential candidate to support, or are leaning toward voting for Mitt Romney.
Let me begin by stating that I worked as a Police Officer for the Commonwealth of Massachusetts for 18 years, including when Mitt Romney was the Governor of Massachusetts. I am an Independent voter, so I have no party to promote. But I do have a warning to anyone who will listen.
You have probably heard the “Romney Camp” talk about how as Governor, Mitt Romney took a state that was deep in debt and turned that debt into a surplus. I bet what you don’t know is how Romney accomplished this great feat. I am writing to reveal how Romney did it.
Mitt Romney became Governor and went to work regarding how to balance the budget, and like most politicians, he knew that cuts to the budget were in order. This is not a huge surprise and sounds like good economic sense, right?
Where do you think Romney might have made these cuts? Did Romney go after the robust transit authority? Nope.
Did Romney go after the Turnpike Authority with their grossly overpaid executives who were heavily entwined in political connections? No way!
Instead Mitt Romney decided that he would go after the easiest budget that he could target, namely the human services budget. This is the budget that paid for services and care of people such as; the mentally ill, the mentally challenged, handicapped senior citizens, etc.

Great... get your anti-Romney message across in a state that he's not contesting... that'll do a ton.kiki5711 wrote:Sensata workers drop banner over Romney's Boston HQ.

I finally saw my first lawn signs this past week!
There was an Obama one on my drive to work the other day, and yesterday I saw a Romney one not far from my house.
So far that's it though. Life in a non-battleground state.

Saw a Romney lawn sign a couple weeks ago, and an Obama lawn sign today. They were both regular sized signs on lawns that had huge, four foot high by six foot wide signs for the local congressional candidates, though.Ian wrote:I finally saw my first lawn signs this past week!

About 2 to 1 Romney to Obama here in suburbs. But these were the people that voted Todd Akin in.

WTF? That wasn't the point! The point is to bring out as much as possible information of how Romneys business decisions directly affected working people everywhere.Wumbologist wrote:Great... get your anti-Romney message across in a state that he's not contesting... that'll do a ton.kiki5711 wrote:Sensata workers drop banner over Romney's Boston HQ.

My point is that it's pretty much a waste of time to do that in Massachusetts, we're not a battleground state by any means, after having Romney as governor we know better than to vote for him.

Bicycling through Kirkwood next door, closer to the city. Yard signs are 1 to 1 democrat to republican. But very fee republicans have the Romney sign out. Just the state rep. They may hold their nose and vote Romney. But no need to aggravate neighbors with it.

Taking the shortests sample, our block, there were just two signs. One is ours. The other says Defend Religious Freedom. I think it refers to the catholics having to buy contraceptives for employees. What do the priests need condoms for, buggering little boys? Or do they think they have AIDS? Nuns do not need much, but...

Re: 2012 US Election -- Round 2
I do know the difference, kiki. And, i certainly think it's better to serve one's country, generally speaking. However, Biden got 5 deferments in Vietnam, and Romney got deferments in Vietnam (but, I am not sure if he got as many as 5). Neither Ryan nor Obama served at all.kiki5711 wrote:So what? NOTHING! You're the one that doesn't know the difference between serving your country and being a missionary spreading god's word of fairy tales.Coito ergo sum wrote:Well, if you heard the interview on the View where that came from, you would see that it was Whoopi Goldberg acting like an ass. First, she stated that what she read was that Mormons can't serve in the military because of their religion. Ann Romney went on to explain that they can, and that many Mormons do. However, Mitt did not, and instead went "on Mission" and so did her sons, and that one of her sons is a doctor who treats veterans. She did not "equate" missions and military service at all.kiki5711 wrote:Aren't they different ways of serving?
One is going into actual combat.
The other one is spreading your religion. What do you think they do as missionaries?![]()

But, the bottom line is -- so what? Obama didn't serve. Biden didn't serve. Both Biden and Romney got deferments. So what?
What you don't get is that the Democrats don't have the moral high ground here, and it's pretty darn silly to claim that Romney/Ryan didn't serve and so that is a strike against them, without calling that same strike against Obama/Biden. The fact that Romney served in a mission or whatever they do in Mormonism doesn't make his lack of military experience worse than Obama or Biden's lack of military experience. Biden said that at the time he was preoccupied with marriage and law school. So what?
Re: 2012 US Election -- Round 2
I don't think Kiki's trying to make a case for Democrats holding the moral high ground in terms of military experience so much as Romney taking the low ground. Even bringing up the point of being a Mormon missionary in France is just embarassing. The words "Romney served" should not go together at all.
