I think financially, McKinnon has done the US a favour.
How much would it have cost them, to pay a top consultancy to find the weaknesses in their IT systems?
He did it for free. And he got it right. What he did was save the US millions, and prove that the weaknesses were actually real, not theoretical.
Because if he could do it, China could do it.
Theresa May's stated reason was incredibly stupid though.
She said that she took seriously, the possibility that he would kill himself. That is ludicrous, and is going to cause all sorts of trouble.
Anybody facing extradition now is going to be suicidal. She's established a precedent that future home secretaries won't thank her for.
Suicide, or the threat of suicide, is the individual's problem. Nobody else's.

Interesting that he's not being extradited because of questions about his human rights. It tends to suggest that there are ethical problems with extraditing anyone to the U.S.
Also interesting how so many people with Asperger's refute they have any pathology yet when they do shit like this, then we've to consider them poor mentally ill victims that didn't know what they were really doing. I find that offensive. They know the fucking difference between right and wrong.

Tory naturally wants a Romney win and by denying Obama a chew toy it weakens him a little?

At least that there's a disagreement. Proving one ethical system is superior to the other pends.Audley Strange wrote:Interesting that he's not being extradited because of questions about his human rights. It tends to suggest that there are ethical problems with extraditing anyone to the U.S.

Charging a tinfoil hatted fool with 'terrorism' to cover the gross failures of your internet security systems is NOT ethical .
