I was going to ask the same question. I've seen people saying he went faster than the speed of sound, but not specifying if he went faster than the speed of sound in the air he was actually falling through. What I really want to know is, did he make a sonic boom? - because if he did, that's like some serious super-hero shit. KA-POW!
[Disclaimer - if this is comes across like I think I know what I'm talking about, I want to make it clear that I don't. I'm just trying to get my thoughts down]

The Guinness Book people spoke at the press conference. They stated preliminary findings were that he went 1.24 Mach. They didn't state which Mach they were counting at that time, the "in the medium through which the object is traveling" (faster underwater) or "standard", meaning "the speed of sound at sea level."

I was hoping for a big splat. I'm sure he will pick up his Darwin award later though
Outside the ordered universe is that amorphous blight of nethermost confusion which blasphemes and bubbles at the center of all infinity—the boundless daemon sultan Azathoth, whose name no lips dare speak aloud, and who gnaws hungrily in inconceivable, unlighted chambers beyond time and space amidst the muffled, maddening beating of vile drums and the thin monotonous whine of accursed flutes.

Other technicallities aside, I wonder how far someone could travel in a wingsuit from that sort of altitude?

He was a lot lower than that before the air started to affect him, so I'd say about the same distance, 40 miles from starting point, plus whatever he could get in the thick part of the atmosphere.
But more importantly:
