If...

In the first of Lyndsey Anderson's Mick Travis trilogy, Travis has a great line. "One man can change the world with a bullet in the right place. "

Where would you place that bullet, If you were given the chance?

I don't have an answer, but I bloody love that film, and Anderson.

Different discussion to be held elsewhere, perhaps, but I'd be curious what you thought of O Lucky Man! I pay you the compliment of assuming you've seen it. 8-)

I don't want to shoot anyone, but I suppose it would be quite good to have taken a pot shot at Hitler in around 1934 or 5.

Both films are top notch for me too btw!

A damned good question . If you are allowed to go historical, I believe Rum gave the only obvious answer. Hitler was recent enough, and his personal impact was strong enough, that one can bet high odds on that the world would have taken a better course without him. Today - very difficult, there are few persons of high enough magnitude, where some other person would not step in and act similarily.

A distant relative of mine, Eugen Schauman, might have done such a deed for Finland in 1904, when he shot the Russian general governor of Finland, Nikolai Bobrikov.

The problem with all the possible options I can think of (past and present) is that some other shit comes along and takes their place.
Kill Hitler? The Nazis rise to power under someone else.
Kill Jesus (if he ever existed)? One of the other fucked-up cults of that age grows to take over the Roman Empire.
Kill George Osbourne? Some other callous, worthless, mindless, libertarian sack-of-shit goes-on to murder our nation.

A single bullet is never enough. Now send me back to 1066 with an army and that's a whole different ballgame :plot:

What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."
