I had missed this, I'm so little on FB anymore. This blog post was dated June 1, 2012:
Facebook wants to know your political views before it gives you a birthday card
We all know that Facebook and its 3rd party apps have a voracious appetite for our personal information, and I think it cheapens the user experience, at least for those of us that are concerned about online privacy.
Recently a friend of mine was kind enough to send me a birthday card on Facebook, but to view it I would have to tell the app every detail of my being:

- photos
- education histories
- hometowns
- interests
- likes
- locations
- relationship statuses
- relationship details
- religious and political views
- websites and work histories
Imagine if the postman demanded to know all these things before they handed over your post – you’d tell them to get lost – but somehow it has become normalised online.

Pretty sure that's just a third party app, they can request whatever they want which is why I'm careful about what I accept. Most of them are just ways to mine your info for marketing.

After their first two days of using Facebook, I'd question the sanity of anyone sending me any kind of eGreeting from an app on FB.
If I see "Your Friend has sent you an X, find out what it is using MineDataApp! Click here", my immediate reaction is, "well they are stupid then".

I do not like any apps and rarely use any of them.
What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."

I ignore apps for the most part. Especially the ones that will "post on your behalf." It's not my behalf, it's using my name to make my friends think I'm crazy about something and being obnoxious about posting the same shit over and over again. Not going to happen.

For some reason, years ago, I set up a facebook account for no rational reason. I quickly learned, put a few pictures of the house and town on it, asked any one of my relatives who happened to find it to come and visit, and haven't looked at it since. Of course I do get those annoying emails, which are automatically sent to trash when they come in. I've had thoughts that someone should really start up a truly private social site, but then how would it make money.

I only used apps the first year. Some were fun.
Sometimes I edit and delete stuff just to see if I can still do it.
The internet does not seem to know my full birthday, in 1954.

I predict Zuckerberg one day will wind up "accidently" dying in some horrible tragedy once the dupes on his info-trawl machine have given up everything and his backers have made their move.

You can turn off notifications...
