DNC tribute to veterans - Russian veterans

Russian ships displayed at DNC tribute to vets

While retired Adm. John Nathman, a former commander of Fleet Forces Command, honored vets as America’s best, the ships from the Russian Federation Navy were arrayed like sentinels on the big screen above.

Not me. But you would assume that the political staffer who chose them had some military knowledge. And/or some common sense to double-check. Apparently not though ...

The pretty lights were no doubt contracted out to a civilian firm and some minimum-wage person was set to googling images.

Most likely. Just subcontract out the menial (and sometimes not so menial) work to someone cheap, and then don't check it.

You'll notice how long it took someone to actually spot the error. Fact is most people would have glanced up at the picture and then returned to looking at the speaker.

Maybe, but there's always "someone" out there who'll take a closer look, or who just has the savvy to notice something wrong without really looking for it. It always, always happens. And then the shit hits the fan.

If that's the worst gaff the DNC has to deal with in the next five weeks I'm a very happy man. :{D

Yup, "a week is a long time in politics". Just let Mitt put his foot in his mouth again, and all will be forgotten.

That is doubtful. Everything that is going to be shown to the entire audience of delegates, and the millions of television viewers, would be carefully scrutinized and reviewed by the organizers. They dropped the ball, because to them big battleships look like big battleships, and it likely just didn't occur to anyone to double check that the battleships were American. It was probably just assumed that they were American.

It was noticed shortly after the video was played, but it it took off a few days later in the press. The Mainstream Media didn't bother with it, because it wasn't a Republican gaffe.

I know. Damned that liberal conspiracy to censor any Democrat gaffes.
