Oh, now we're talking about priorities. Well, on that point, I agree. But, try to get high school students to stay for 3 hours after school working on science projects.

I fucking saw athletes get preferential and light-handed treatment in high school. I say treat them like anyone else. If they get in a fight, suspend them like everybody else and let them miss games. Don't cover for them but don't throw them off the team if they get caught with a beer or a joint outside of school property and away from school events. In other words, treat them like normal kids.
My experience was different. I saw athletes get harsher treatment than "normal kids." They often get kicked off the team for small infractions, they have to maintain minimum grades and in order to play their sports their study time is much reduced. Often, for some sports like hockey, they are out of bed 4 hours before the "normal kids" to get to the rink, get suited up, practice and THEN go to school.

Sports are a vital part of the education process for many children. A well rounded individual has academics, some music or other extracurricular art activity and a sport. Physical activity is good for health, well being, fitness, etc.

Besides, I wouldn't say that Romney is really that stupid. Just Republicans in general. ;)
I would love to believe he was joking. He could be our next President, so I sure as hell hope he was not serious. But, I'm inclined to think otherwise.
The Obama visiting 57 states thing is different. He wasn't trying to joke about 57 states. He just misspoke.
We could talk about how Biden likes what high school cheerleaders do with "hard wood." Or, we could talk about how he asks paraplegics to "stand up, for god's sake."

Or, suggest that New Yorkers not ride the subway in order to protect themselves from swine flu. LOL

Or, calling Justice John Paul Stevens one of the greatest Justices....Justice Stewart....lol

Yup. B. Obama. The very first African American politician who is articulate, bright, CLEAN and a nice looking guy! Storybook! LOL

So, you think Romney really is surprised that windows on Boeing 767s and such do not open? You honestly think that?

Read his entire quote and try telling us that is was clearly a joke. G'head.

Should we talk about Reagan and trees? Another obvious joke?

I have. It sounds like a joke. http://nymag.com/daily/intel/2012/09/mi ... ndows.html

There is a little bit of a preconceived desire on your and others' part to believe that he has flown on airplanes regularly for the last 40 years, and is now realizing that the windows don't open.
The Los Angeles Times story that relayed Romney's airplane remark to the world was based off a pool report written by the New York Times's Ashley Parker. When we asked Parker this morning whether it seemed as if Romney made the mark in jest, she left no doubt. "Romney was joking," she e-mailed. Parker told us that while the pool report didn't explicitly indicate that Romney was joking, it was self-evident that he was. "The pool report provided the full transcript of his comments on Ann's plane scare," she said, "and it was clear from the context that he was not being serious."
So, the reporter who heard the comment first-hand and reported on it said that it was clear that he was joking.
"Basically he was retelling the story and when he said ‘I don’t know why they don’t have roll down windows on airplanes,’ he looked at the audience and everyone laughed,” William Everitt told TheBlaze. “It was a clearly delivered joke … There were 1,000 people there that will tell you the same thing.”
Suggesting that Romney, who has run billion dollar companies, flown all over the world in jets since about 1968, and is a Harvard graduate, really doesn't understand the dynamics of an airplane and windows on a jet, just makes you look like a fool.

That is not evident from the context. LOL

And, you can't go to a 7 Eleven or a Dunkin Donuts without an Indian accent...lol

But, it is interesting that you look for the most charitable interpretation you can come up with when it comes to Obama and Biden, and you gladly accept the least charitable interpretation of anything Romney says.

A guy that smart ought to be able to make a joke more clearly understood. I still don't think it was obvious, and therefore am still unconvinced. It probably was a joke, but who is to say he has a reasonable understanding of science?

Anyway, this is just a gaffe-of-the-moment. Plenty more to come. Personally, I find Biden's tend to be much more cringe-worthy...

It was clearly understood, apparently, by everyone who heard it. Jokes often don't translate to the printed word all that well.

This has nothing to do with fucking science, dude. It's a passenger jet. Their windows have NEVER opened as long as Romney has been flying on them.

Neither do Vegas hotel room windows. Granted, one would think the reasons for passenger jet windows not opening should be more obvious, but you never know. This is a year in which a Senate candidate stated that women can't become pregnant through rape and WASN'T making a joke. So I think the confusion is pretty understandable.

You only "never know" if you start with the desire to find evidence that the guy is stupid. It's why you're an apologist for every gaffe from the Democrat side, looking for the most charitable interpretation possible - because you already know the Democrats are smart, so all the gaffes must be just innocent blunders. But, you already know Republicans are stupid, and Romney is a Republican, so anything he says is evidence of that.

Yeah, but he's not Romney. Aiken was, in fact, an ignorant fool on that point and was repeating dated myths about pregnancy. Neither he, nor anyone else said he was joking, and he deserved the criticism he got. Almost all prominent Republicans called him out on that, and called for him to resign and back out of the race.

To suggest that Aiken's blunder is evidence that Romney being confused about airplane windows is understandable is, quite frankly Ian, not worthy of you. You can do way better than that. It's borderline retarded. It would be like me offering Biden's dumb quotes and Harry Reid's "light skinned/Negro dialect" quote as evidence that Obama may well really believe there is an intercontinental railroad and 57 states, and that Hawaii is in Asia.

But, yeah, that's the one thing that ruined the Hangover for me -- and She Who Must Be Obeyed -- since when we were sitting in the theater and it came to the scene with the mattress stuck on the side of the casino -- and they mentioned the windows -- I turned to SWMBO'd and said, "he's on the roof, obviously." She punched me.

The movie was still funny, though.

Calm down, Mr. Strawman. Where have I apologized for every gaffe from the Democrat side?

It seems to me that as soon as a politician speaks two diametrically opposing interpretations are offered by the media. Hardly ever do you hear "he said this and meant it".... This is universal in western societies.

Well, the ones we've cited you've generally defended. It does seem to be a pattern.

It was pretty darn obvious even in transcript form, but even if a dry transcript is not obvious enough for you, it seems pretty clear that the people who were there and heard his delivery got the joke.
