Depends. You'll have to define what you mean by "privileged." Standing on its own, the term is so vague it can mean anything.

I don't think it is privileged for football players to play sport and have money provided so they have a field to play on. That doesn't make them "privileged." Anyone who wants to try out for the team can play football, and if you aren't good enough, then maybe there is another activity that the school provides that will suit you better. That's not "privilege" and "oppression." Only a Skepchick or an Atheism+douche would call it that.

It's not a "privilege" for a person to have athletic ability, born or acquired through practice and training. Again, only a Skepchick or Atheism+er would say that it is.

Now, go ahead and define what you mean by "privilege" and then I'll let you know if I agree with your bullshit.

LOL - that looks disgusting.

And, I take it that is Finland. Let's see some evidence that middle and high school kids eat off of tableware and use silverware for forks and knives and have glass chalices to drink their milk out of.
That lunch looks delicious to me, though I'm not sure I've had fish chowder with salmon in it before. I usually use haddock. Nice little salad, cookie, and what looks like a strawberry sweet. Glasses and plates probably should be of some type of plastic to prevent breakage.

I don't know. By the same token:

When did Hawaii become part of Asia?
Where is the "intercontinental railroad?"
Why don't Navy "corpse" men get recognized more?
Have you ever wondered when the Middle East would stop plaguing the region?
Shouldn't we support a public option for healthcare because UPS and FedEx are doing fine, but the U.S. Post Office is always having problems?
How do you say this in Austrian?
We have 57 states, don't we?

So, how are they privileged, again? Or, are you going all Atheism+ and just making the allegation, and if anyone suggests that you might want to back it up, you just start hurling insults. I think we know the answer already...lol :hilarious:

Besides which, it evidently never occurred to the looney left that Romney was joking...

That would not allow them to continue the never-ending mantra that he's "stupid." He's so stupid he wonders, seriously, why the windows in jumbo jets don't open. But, of course, Obama doesn't REALLY believe there are 57 states. That would be ridiculous.

The Federal government should not be involved in school lunch programs, it is a State and local issue. Instead they take money from States only to give it back with strings attached.

Reading through what he said, I'm still on the fence as to whether or not he was joking. I honestly can't tell. It sure didn't read like a joke. But with Romney the Robot, who knows? :dunno:

And it's silly of you to even bring up the "57 states" thing. Even mentioning that is ridiculous. Poor comparison.

Besides, I wouldn't say that Romney is really that stupid. Just Republicans in general. ;)

Awwwww. If local accountability works so well, then why were school lunches always crap?
I would respond to this, but the fact that you're utilizing Atheism+-speak and making a statement reminiscent of Skepchick mocking of the "fee fees" of the "privileged" made me throw up a little in my mouth. I'll give this a pass, and hope that you aren't an example of those jack-a-lopes succeeding in changing the zeitgeist.
Um, athletes aren't privileged in high school?
no.
Robert_S wrote: They don't get a ton more resources thrown their way?
Only funding for the sports they play in.
Robert_S wrote: It isn't common to cut them a lot of slack in grading and behavioural discipline so they can stay on the team?
Not in high school. College, yes.
Robert_S wrote: I'm using the olde fashioned meaning of privileged here in case you didn't notice.

Now these children think they're horribly oppressed because their special interests weren't taken into account. They're all like "Obama: don't do that!"
Err...no...they just seem to think the new food sucks, and the portions are too small given their activity level. Not all students sit around playing video games after school. Those that are active need more than 2000 or 2500 calories per day. If I only ate 2500 calories per day during high school, I would literally have passed out. I studied in college level and advanced placement courses, and played two sports. I probably burned around 1500 calories in soccer practice alone, and a similar amount if not more in a game.
Robert_S wrote:
I'm not the skepchick in this situation. These football brats are.

And since when have children not complained about school lunches?
I just think it's hilarious, as is the predictable scrambling from Obama devotees to justify everything they do.
When the high school science project budgets are more than the sports budgets in most US high schools then the priorities will be straight.

I fucking saw athletes get preferential and light-handed treatment in high school. I say treat them like anyone else. If they get in a fight, suspend them like everybody else and let them miss games. Don't cover for them but don't throw them off the team if they get caught with a beer or a joint outside of school property and away from school events. In other words, treat them like normal kids.

FWIW, I'm going back down to my previous level of give a fuck about the Skepchicks/FtB crowd. That would be about 0.01% of how much you care and they're getting a corresponding amount of my attention. For a while A+ was fascinating to observe, then it was amusing, but now it's back to just tedious.
What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."

I would love to believe he was joking. He could be our next President, so I sure as hell hope he was not serious. But, I'm inclined to think otherwise.
The Obama visiting 57 states thing is different. He wasn't trying to joke about 57 states. He just misspoke.
