Officials Want to Keep Girl Off Boys' Golf Team

As far as ridiculous rules go, the one that's currently being discussed in an effort to keep 16-year-old golf sensation Sierra Harr from playing on the Castleford (Idaho) High boys' golf team could be one of the worst yet.
I think if there are separate boys and girls leagues/teams, then the sexes should remain separate. That's because if only the girls are allowed to play on the boys' team, then you would have a league of all girls, and then a league of boys and some more girls. All the best girl players would go to the boys' teams, but the boys they beat out for the boys' team wouldn't be able to play on the girls' team even if they were better than the girls.

If there is only one team, then she should be allowed to play.

Or, they should make it based on handicap, and the those with over an X handicap would be on the second tier team, and those with under an X handicap would be on the first tier team.

Also -- if she plays on the boys' team, no hitting from the ladies' tees, please.... :smoke:

LOL - I wonder what she'd say if the boy this girl beat out switched to the girls' team.... hmmmm....?

Good idea. Next barrier to break should be ice hockey and the NFL. :teef:

The key part of this story...
The IHSAA wouldn't confirm that a new rule keeping Harr off the boys' team had been put in place, but the Associated Press reported that it's looking at a way to allow Harr the chance to play high school golf, while "preserving fairness for others."

"The mental mind set a golfer gains from golfing for a team cannot be replaced," Harr said in a letter to the Idaho High School Activities Association. "The boys on my team treated me as an equal, and if any of my competitors disapproved of my golfing with the boys, they were gracious enough to keep their opinions to themselves and treated me with respect. The only negative reactions I received were from a few opposing coaches."
Sounds like some coaches didn't like getting beaten by a girl. Petty assholes.

Heck, some guy tried out for the Denver Bronco's Cheerleading Squad..... http://www.king5.com/sports/Man-tries-o ... 85965.html

He got cut. No males have been on the team since Mork made it 30 years ago.

Yet ironically they probably pay to get beaten by girls not much older.

If they are using handicaps it doesn't matter what tee they play from because there is a rule for adjusting strokes given in mixed tee tournaments.

I don't see the problem here.

Wouldn't want her handling the team's balls, might make their putters too stiff to use.
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

Their handicap ratings are presumably based on whatever tees they normally play from. If she wants to play with the boys, let her tee off further back from their tees, and see what that does to her handicap after a while. Then she can play with them, as she'll be playing the same course as them. If she can cut it, then good for her. If not ...
