Anders Breivik - Court Rules Him Sane.
Murdered 77 people in cold blood but he is clinically sane........21 years minimum in prison. The families of the dead seem happy enough with the verdict.

I think he's pretty insane.
I don't know what qualifies has insane but I think he's certainly fucked up.
Maybe if he starts eating his own excrement they will change their mind.

Well, he was smiling as the verdict was read out.

Being declared sane by court must have felt like a major victory to him as he was very afraid of being "just fended off as another looney". I think he feels even more justified and righteous after this verdict.
I think someone who can single-handedly do all this, and only display emotion about matters concerning his own ego, is fundamentally broken, and should be disabled from functioning freely.

I would agree. Do you think there is a chance he would ever be released?normal wrote:Well, he was smiling as the verdict was read out.

The only thing that REALLY matters here is that he is locked up forever in a secure place where he can never harm society again.
But personally, I'm disappointed he wasn't ruled to be insane, be cause he himself said that that would be "worse than death".
Call me vindictive, but death's too good for him.

I heard it as a 10 year minimum...

He was sentenced to 21 years (which is the maximum) but then it can be prolonged 5 years at a time after that.

I thought that if he'd been ruled insane, they would be able to keep him indefinitely, read: until he dies. Like that Hinckly (sp?) guy who shot...perhaps Lennon or Reagan. Shit. I should look that up, but I'm not going to.

He always seemed perfectly sane to me. Insanity is not required for that sort of evil.

normal is, though. We would do well to keep that in mind, I believe...

Anders Breivik deserves the death penalty.

Re: Anders Breivik - Court Rules Him Sane.
He's clearly insane.
The problem is what to do with him.
Execution as a penalty is pointless.
Keeping him alive will only please him, he can continue in his self-belief.
Simply euthenise him.
I've always felt that human-ness should be an earned property.
The corollary of which is, it may be forfeited.
He simply becomes an animal not of the human species.
Any such animal that had demonstrably killed so many people would have been put down for safety’s sake.
Ergo euthenise.
Ps can I have the money saved from years of meaningless incarceration for my model railway.

Not really about what he deserves, its about whats best for society as a whole and the state going around killing defenceless (but obviously very evil) people is not considered to be best for society.
Breivik is now in jail as a racist mass murdering child killer, never mind the death penalty keeping him safe from other prisoners is going to be extremely difficult. I don't think the Norwegians normally do solitary confinement but they might have to make an exception with him. I'm sure his prison will be a very nice place to go completely insane in
