The new 'legitimate' rape controversy
Re: The new 'legitimate' rape controversy
Fuck the "cockamamey" (sp) rape as the emotional exception string to pull in a debate about abortion. Abortion is the termination of an unwanted pregnancy. Unwanted pregnancy.

Re: The new 'legitimate' rape controversy
The GOP is trying to distance itself from Todd Akin, while at the same time proposing that the US adopt a constitutional amendment to ban all abortion, with no language for any exceptions: http://thecaucus.blogs.nytimes.com/2012 ... f=politics
A week ago Akin was a golden boy, ready to help the Republicans take back the Senate, and now he's a pariah. Why? Not because his politics changed and suddenly he was discovered to be so ludicrously outside the mainstream, but because his knowledge of female anatomy has proved to be embarassingly poor. The adoption of this platform ought to be a bigger controversy; the Republicans are now dominated by the batshit-crazy wing of their party.

What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."

There are people who can help, you know. They're used to dealing with people who don't know what they are laughing at.Gawdzilla Sama wrote:Sorry, I was too busy laughing. At you. You know what that poster would be more effective if the "left" (I use that term laughably, obviously) hadn't been involved in some really weird expansions and legal re-definitions of Rape themselves. It's a game both sides play.
The one above it though. Right on the fucking nose. This should be being condemned by everyone.

For this to be coming out of a grown man's mouth, and one especially running for government office, is tooo insane to be true, but it is.
In his mind, after a woman is raped, how long does she need in court to prove that it was "legitimate"? One month, two, three? By that time, it gets more and more complicated to get an abortion in the first place. The Republican religiosity brain dead running the country.

'Religion has actually convinced people that there's an invisible man -- living in the sky -- who watches everything you do, every minute of every day. And the invisible man has a special list of ten things he does not want you to do.. And if you do any of these ten things, he has a special place, full of fire and smoke and burning and torture and anguish, where he will send you to live and suffer and burn and choke and scream and cry forever and ever 'til the end of time! ..But He loves you.' - George Carlin

Where did they get that shit from? Did they just circle-jerk it all into existence by talking bollocks among themselves or are there actually doctors out there that are putting out this kind of lunacy?
It's sickening and worrying.
