So you are comparing countries that are of similar geographic and population size, that have the same ethnic diversity, the same war on drugs, the same gang activity, and the same pockets of economic disparity as well, right?Blind groper wrote:Just a case of comparing apples with apples and not oranges. 'Religion has actually convinced people that there's an invisible man -- living in the sky -- who watches everything you do, every minute of every day. And the invisible man has a special list of ten things he does not want you to do.. And if you do any of these ten things, he has a special place, full of fire and smoke and burning and torture and anguish, where he will send you to live and suffer and burn and choke and scream and cry forever and ever 'til the end of time! ..But He loves you.' - George Carlin

I'm wild just like a rock, a stone, a tree
And I'm free, just like the wind the breeze that blows
And I flow, just like a brook, a stream, the rain
And I fly, just like a bird up in the sky
And I'll surely die, just like a flower plucked
And dragged away and thrown away
And then one day it turns to clay
It blows away, it finds a ray, it finds its way
And there it lays until the rain and sun
Then I breathe, just like the wind the breeze that blows
And I grow, just like a baby breastfeeding
And it's beautiful, that's life

And I'm free, just like the wind the breeze that blows
And I flow, just like a brook, a stream, the rain
And I fly, just like a bird up in the sky
And I'll surely die, just like a flower plucked

If you still believe, this far into the thread, that law-abiding concealed carry holders are the cause of America's homicide rate, I'm not sure a reasoned conversation can be held with you.Blind groper wrote:
Edit : I checked on Switzerland. They are different from the USA in that they have fewer hand guns, and it is totally forbidden to carry a hand gun in public unless the person has a special license which is given only to people who can justify that in terms of their vocation. ie. police or security personnel. So their lower homicide rate would appear to be due to the fact that there are no people out in public with those lethal hand guns, except a few specialists on duty.

Purple would likely have to be a custom job, but easy enough to accomplish as long as you start out with the right rifle.Twoflower wrote:I want a purple one!

I propose that 50% of the states of the US get supplied with proper bullets and 50% get placebo ones. Double blind, randomised trial, of course.

I feel inspired. Perhaps this weekend I'll finally take my gun to a shooting range and fire off some shots. If I do, I'll report on my excursion.
