Like it. Were there ever any monarchist but separatist movements in the colonies?Coito ergo sum wrote:

Nothing of any consequence, as I understand it. Although there were lots of folks in each state that opposed uniting in a federal union to one degree or another. But, Kings were not particularly popular back in the day.
There were a good number of colonials who were royalists, supporting staying under the King of England. But, beyond that, and maybe Gawdzilla has a better grasp of the history here, but beyond that my understanding is that Americans did not want kings.

I know some royalists moved to Canada, and also a fair number of former slaves, whom Britain had promised to free if they supported us. I might have to do some digging on this.Coito ergo sum wrote:Nothing of any consequence, as I understand it. http://www.forbes.com/sites/peterferrar ... d-history/The U.S. has never before had a President who thinks so little of the American people that he imagines he can win re-election running on the opposite of reality. But that is the reality of President Obama today.

Do you think anyone will be impressed by this? Ferrara? Heartland Institute? Tobacco advocates and global warming denialists? Doesn't like Obama? You don't say! Might as well ask a lamb if it dislikes mint sauce...Coito ergo sum wrote:http://www.forbes.com/sites/peterferrar ... d-history/The U.S. has never before had a President who thinks so little of the American people that he imagines he can win re-election running on the opposite of reality. It's good to get views from all sides -- including what one or the other side thinks is extreme.

To a degree......but I don't think it does your cause any good if you use sources like these. I was listening to a podcast the other day with a republican voting climate change scientist. Well, formerly republican voting....he'd been driven away from the party by its Tea-bag influenced idiotic position on climate change. He was a conservative but no ideologue. He was a reasonable chap. People like Ferrara? Jerks.Coito ergo sum wrote:It's good to get views from all sides -- including what one or the other side thinks is extreme.
