Richard Dawkins. Still the best by far.
I still like Dawkins.
Like many, I was disappointed when the Dawkins forums went tits up.
But when Richard Dawkins talks about scepticism and atheism, there's nobody better out there.
He gets it so right, and expresses himself so clearly, that he often makes the opposition look stupid, without trying to.
I don't like his website, it's not really any good for debating, but Dawkins the Atheist Sceptic gets my vote every time.

I think it's funny that people were shocked to find out an Oxford Don was not a good business manager.

Yeh, but all that stuff was a side show.
I'm still glad that there's someone out there who can say what I'm thinking, before I thought it, and put it better than I ever could. That's far more important than the Dawkins forum.
As far as I'm concerned, he's still number 1.

Hitch is gone, PZ is a bit silly, never got into Sam Harris but I'll always appreciate Dawk for writing The Blind Watchmaker. That book set me on a path that led me to here.......Fucking Dawkins! What have you done?!?

He is a great science communicator but not so hot on less rational pursuits like politics or business.
My issue with him when it comes to religion with him is how annoyingly polite he is with religious people as its not their fault they are brainwashed morons. He is nowhere near as polite when it comes to discussing things with fellow scientists as I assume he thinks they can take it over minor disagreements on evolution.
His background is similar to Darwin's, semi-aristocratic which doesn't stop him being a decent person but is a bit of a problem when it comes to be an entrepreneur or man of the people

I was too cheap to buy God Delusion at first. I found these booklets from the 1930s printed in Kansas City. Joseph had burst the religion bubble back then. The ex monk is very anti Catholic.Clinton Huxley wrote:Hitch is gone, PZ is a bit silly, never got into Sam Harris but I'll always appreciate Dawk for writing The Blind Watchmaker. ..but he pretends to be neither. He is what he is - an academic and communicator..and perhaps not a terribly good judge of people. I can forgive him the last bit..really quite easily.

Re: Richard Dawkins. Still the best by far.
I don't get it... TGD was a major disappointment to me, it didn't even give me any better reasons to be an atheist than I had before, or tell me of better ways to express those reasons...
and without asking an ivory tower don to be a business manager, you'd expect a guy steeped in college politics to have better sense for people and PR.
If the fact that guy is regarded as a major figure among enemies of religion and the bother it imposes on us hadn't been forced on me by how much peome talk about him and seem to look up to him, I'd never have believed that he was anything but a bit player on the field.
