This actually depends on where you are in the US. Here in Massachusetts I had to take a firearms safety course and pass a test in order to even be eligible for a license. Being drunk with a gun is a definite no-no.mistermack wrote:

Not so with guns. It's illegal to be drunk in charge of a moped. Is it illegal to be drunk in charge of a gun? ( I don't actually know the answer to that ).

Absolutely not true. The studies merely reflect what people SAY.Wumbologist wrote: Considering that most defensive gun uses occur without a shot being fired, how else would anyone know about them? If I've been accosted by a crook, pull a revolver and tell him to fuck off, and he runs off into the night, I'm probably not going to waste the rest of my evening telling the cops about the bad guy who was here just a minute ago but I scared him off. No police report, yet a crime was prevented, and depending on the mental state and intentions of the criminal, harm to myself may have been avoided.
You're grasping at straws to avoid the very real fact that there are over a dozen methodologically valid studies that have found high rates of defensive gun use in the US, because if guns are used more often in defense of innocents than they are used by criminals to perpetrate violence, your argument falls apart.
They then claim that this is what actually HAPPENS.
And you consider that that is methodically valid? Methodically bollocks is more accurate.

You are accosted by what I assume is a crook without a gun and you considering escalating the situation by bring out a lethal weapon as success. Never mind a civilian doing that if a policeman did that in the UK I would hope he would lose his job and be looking at jail time.Considering that most defensive gun uses occur without a shot being fired, how else would anyone know about them? That ideology is so fucked up its beyond comprehension, but you have convinced me of one thing it isnt just guns that are the problem its the attitude of gun owners

When only criminals carry guns the police know exactly who to shoot!

It is if you leave the house and carry with you. Specifics depend on which state.
In Montana you can't carry into a bar even if you don't drink.

I can't find any reference to an offence of intoxication while carrying a gun.Gallstones wrote: Not in your own home on your own property.

In any case, a moped is more strictly regulated than a gun, because there is a legal limit of blood-alcohol for the moped.
It's not being drunk that's illegal. It's having more alcohol than the limit. That limit is nowhere near being drunk, for most people.
So it's still a fact that a moped is more tightly regulated than a gun.
It's quite right that the moped should be regulated. But more tightly than guns?

You're right. Nobody has ever defended themselves with a gun, because we weren't there as eyewitnesses to it. Every one of the millions of reported defensive gun uses is a fabrication, yet I'm sure any statistics that support your end of the argument are solid fucking gold.mistermack wrote: Absolutely not true. I would be surprised if the "legal limit" for drinking wasn't the upper threshold for carrying a gun as well, if not lower. To be honest, of the two, I'd be more concerned from a legal standpoint about the gun than the driving. Best to avoid doing either after a few drinks.mistermack wrote: I can't find any reference to an offence of intoxication while carrying a gun.

It remains a fact, regardless of the distress that the exactness of the fact causes, that a morbid interest in firearms, as displayed by some of our more swivel-eyed North American members, is an absolutely sure-fire indicator of psychopathy and that those afflicted should, at a minimum, be sterilised.

I've actually been considering a vasectomy for my own purposes. I'm wild just like a rock, a stone, a tree
And I'm free, just like the wind the breeze that blows
And I flow, just like a brook, a stream, the rain
And I fly, just like a bird up in the sky
And I'll surely die, just like a flower plucked
And dragged away and thrown away
And then one day it turns to clay
It blows away, it finds a ray, it finds its way
And there it lays until the rain and sun
Then I breathe, just like the wind the breeze that blows
And I grow, just like a baby breastfeeding
And it's beautiful, that's life

And I'm free, just like the wind the breeze that blows

Well alright but I've got to make sure I've had some practice before I attempt it. One should never shoot at things without having practiced. As soon as I've gotten the hang of it by shooting your balls off, I'll take a go at my own.Clinton Huxley wrote: Typical gun owner. All talk.
