What would the Skepchicks think?
Vietnamese airline fined for bikini pageant on flight: http://www.dailymail.co.uk/news/article ... ncers.html
O.k. -- so --
1. This is a shameful example of sexism -- everyone has a right to be free from women wearing bikinis....
2. Women ought never be criticized for what they wear, and they have a right to express their sexuality if they so choose. This fine is an example of the patriarchy repressing women's sexuality again...

Good Christ, will you stop being so obsessed with the Skepchicks already?

Honestly, Bella all of you fuckers -- I take issue with this statement. The baton was taken from me some time ago. This is just an innocuous thread relating to a Vietnamese bikini show on an airplane. If you really want to see obsession, why not comment on the folks starting about 20 different threads about Skepchicks after Pappa's unfortunate rape joke?Bella Fortuna wrote:Good Christ, will you stop being so obsessed with the Skepchicks already?
But, in any case:

It probably is, but the s******k angle was unlikely to win friends and influence people.

The OP's perfectly legitimate. Your dragging in a current hot-button (and no, you're not the only one who's done it, but you have done it more than anyone if my topic-title searching is anything to go by) was meant for what purpose having to do with the actual story?
The story is ridiculous enough on its own is my point.

Re: What would the Skepchicks think?
Well, because folks of the Skepchick ilk -- yer weirdo feminista -- have made both arguments. We aren't supposed to "shame" or "judge" a woman who wants to "express her sexuality" in public, and dress codes in workplaces designed to make women cover up are the "patriarchy" limiting women's choices and stifling their sexuality. Yet, at the same time, such folks will suggest that everyone has the right to make their own boundaries, and if they are offended by a display of sexuality the offending persons must stop. So, this seemed to illustrate in an extreme way these two disparate rules. The use of the word "Skepchick" is just a shorthand for folks like them -- they've become emblematic.Bella Fortuna wrote:The OP's perfectly legitimate. Don't risk making a decision on your own. The consequences of choosing poorly just aren't worth it. Best to go to FTB and download the relevant rightthoughts.
