If you're in America, intelligent life would necessarily be "out there." Except for those Ratz who happen to be trapped there, of course.

America is weird. That country contains so many contradictions. It certainly contains intelligence, and intelligence of a high level. The number of American Nobel Prize winners demonstrates that very clearly. America contains amazing talent.

However, in some ways it is an amazingly barbaric and backward country also. The refusal to adopt the metric system (except in science) is a case in point. Ditto gun culture. Ditto the tendency to stride off to another sovereign country and try to force the locals at gun point to do what America wants. Ditto the religious right. The "health system" (which is a very, very sick system) is just another case in point. Along with the tendency to sue everyone you can and get ridiculous damages.

But, at the same time, America put a man on the moon, produced the movie "Star Wars', and makes iPads.

What a contradiction!

A lot of the leading scientists doing research in the States are originally from other countries, according to Neil DeGrasse Tyson. He thinks the education system sucks. But you can hire talent from other countries.
