It would be interesting to see how many of you have heard of the Newburgh Conspiracy. Of course, with Google anybody can say "Yeah, yeah, I heard of it."

Thomas Paine would have. Of course he was English so they just stole some of his ideas.Blind groper wrote: You are suggesting that politicians (yes, those lying and corrupt humans we call politicians) would knowingly, and without other reason, set things up so that they encourage the act of being tossed out of office, and even shot, by the citizenry.

Thomas Paine was a bad-ass dude, especially for an Englishman.PordFrefect wrote:

And yes, the dead white guys who wrote the words were among those who wrote those rationalisations.Blind groper wrote:SethSeth wrote: the dead white guys who wrote the words and you'll discover that protection against internal tyranny is one of the prime concerns of the 2nd Amendment.
As I pointed out, a lot of reinterpretation and rationalisation has happened.
Yes, it has, and every single bit of it has come from the anti-gun side of the political spectrum. The Founders knew exactly what they were doing, and they were protecting the state-of-the-art military weaponry of the time. Nothing has changed except the technology. The intent of the Founders remains as valid as it was when they wrote it, right after defeating the British army and freeing American from tyranny.
I'm not naive at all, I've read their words, and they intended exactly that should whomever is in power fail to abide by the restrictions the Constitution places upon politicians. My question is this : "Just how bloody naive are you?"
You are suggesting that politicians (yes, those lying and corrupt humans we call politicians) would knowingly, and without other reason, set things up so that they encourage the act of being tossed out of office, and even shot, by the citizenry.
The Founders thought of many reasons why an armed citizenry is a benefit to society, among them are defense of the nation against its enemies both foreign and domestic. They were not as narrow minded and self-interested as you seem to think. They were dealing with the events that had just occurred, to them, and they were determined to create something entirely new in the world and to give the citizens the power to ensure that all political power remains firmly in the hands of the People, by ensuring that they are well-armed in the event some despot accedes to power so that they can put that tyrant down.No. Anyone who has any shred of understanding of the mind set those in power exhibit will realise that only the greatest outside influence would push a politician into creating a law that limits his own power. In this case, that influence was fear of Great Britain. Fear alone has that level of power.
You need to do some historical research before you expound on that which you are utterly ignorant of.However, given the total necessity of giving the people the right to own firearms, it would have been politically convenient for them to pretend to be so noble as to set things up in order to limit their own power, and thereby curry favour with the electorate.

Seth, what's your take on the Norinco MAK-90? Quality build AK, or something to pass on?

What we have here, folks, is a guy who actually believes what politicians write.
Is it worth arguing with him? (Thinks for a minute)
Nope!

Maybe not, but I doubt you have any worthwhile input on the quality of the Norinco MAK-90.Blind groper wrote:Seth wrote: You need to do some historical research before you expound on that which you are utterly ignorant of.

Easy enough to find out from google that it is an ideal weapon for nutters who want to go into public places and kill a heap of innocent people.Wumbologist wrote:

Google is not reliable... a bunch of ignorant morons can treat a bad site like a genuinely good source and link to it like mad, thereby exciting the google algorithm and deluding even more poor souls.
If Seth is regarded as knowledgeable on the matter, then his appreciation, knowing who he is, is worth a hundred similar ones randomly found on google.

Ideal? Nah. If you really want "ideal" for that, you're looking for something in a Boeing or Airbus.Blind groper wrote:

I'm interested in hearing his opinion on general build quality. I've never heard anything positive about Norinco except that they're cheap.

Re: You guys and your guns...
I had one of their 1911's for about a month before I sold it to go towards my Hi-Power. It was certainly *inexpensive*, but I got a forged slide & frame for less than half the price of any other one you'd find. Finish wasn't amazing, but it functioned flawlessly. If I wanted another 1911 I wouldn't hesitate to pick up another Norinco.PordFrefect wrote:I'm interested in hearing his opinion on general build quality. Re: You guys and your guns...
Don't know anything about them, but it's hard to screw up an AK, it's such a simple and reliable (if not very accurate) design. However, I don't favor buying ANY Communist-China made firearm for political reasons. I'm an H&K fan myself.Wumbologist wrote:Seth, what's your take on the Norinco MAK-90?
