My objections to the Republicans are that they are very much "Devil take the hindmost". It seems to me that the average Republicans think that they will get rich under a Republican regime that favors the most wealthy. Why this is so is beyond my ken.JimC wrote:I'm a bit the same with our "Liberals", although our current Labour Party are a bunch of incompetent, in-fighting morons...Gawdzilla Sama wrote:The system is such that neither party can do their worst to the US, but each have done things that turned out to be less than wise in long run. My experience is that it gets a bit worse under each Republican administration, so the cumulative errors compound each other. For example, Reagan deregulated the banks, something the Republicans' owners had been wanting for a long time. The result was the recent crash as banks dabbled in all sorts of risky ventures previously forbidden to them.JimC wrote:It is so clear in this thread that never the twain shall meet...
I suppose the same would be true in Oz, although most of us would be pouring shit on both our major parties...
And the fucking Greens as well, the self-righteous wankers!
Still marginally better than the Liberals, I suppose....

1. There is no "R" or "TM" indicated on the sign, so it does not appear that he attempted to register any trademark. The fact that the government opened a trademark registration office doesn't build this guy's business.Gawdzilla Sama wrote:
2. There are sign makers in the US, so the sign is not necessarily from China. Further, ports were built by private companies.
3. Electricity was discovered by private ingenuity, and the first electric companies were private enterprises run by Edison and Westinghouse. The government only "regulated" after the fact.
4. Currency was first created by private banks as notes representing amounts of gold. The government got into the business later by taking it over. Now, of course, the money is issued and managed by the Federal Reserve which is not a governmental entity. It's private banks that are in bed with the government.
5. Telephone companies were and are private companies. The government only does things like break them up as it did AT&T to prevent monopolies. The government did not facilitate delivery of phone service. Private enterprise did that.
6. Teachers can be either public school or private school, and learning how to read is generally something parents teach their kids, not schools. If you wait for schools, especially public schools, to teach your kids to read, then you are a shitty ass parent.
7. Roads are also built by private companies. That road there is a county road. It was paid for by municipal taxes -- property taxes mostly - and built by private road construction companies. Other than arranging for the funding, the municipality or county doesn't do much.
8. The post office is funded by sales of products and is the government acting as a market participant. The only reason any taxpayer funds are used in the post office is because it is incompetently run, and cannot pay for its operating costs with revenues. That's the "government" helpin' us out...
9. Fair access to electricity and phone service? What sort of bullshit is that? They're private entities that sell electricity. They'll sell to anyone who pays the bill. Government doesn't provide access to electricity.
10. The fact that people have police and fire service doesn't mean that "if you have a business, you didn't build that."
The point is, that business people are successful through, for the most part, hard work and ingenuity. That is why hard working and ingenious people tend to be more successful than those that are not. If it was all luck and all based on government contributions, then there would be an equal spread of successful businesses among the hard working and among the slackers. There obviously isn't such a smooth distribution, because it is plainly obvious that those who are go getters, inventive, dedicated, focused and ingenious are the ones who are going to get further ahead - and rightly so.

It's likely that it is beyond your ken because it ain't so. I know many Republicans, none of which think they will get rich because a Republican is in office. They mainly think things will be worse for most people under Democratic policies.Gawdzilla Sama wrote: My objections to the Republicans are that they are very much "Devil take the hindmost". It's going on 4 years. Nobody is talking about "instantly." And, he hasn't "fixed" anything, and nobody is entitled to two terms just to "give them a chance." He doesn't need to fix an entire economy -- which has as much to do with Democrat policies as Republican policies - but there does have to be some sort of work on the matter....Gawdzilla Sama wrote:Bush crashed the US economy, and Obama gets blamed for not fixing it instantly. One bar is pre-recession, the other is just afterwords.
Unemployment is going back up again. Manufacturing is declining again. The GDP "growth" really isn't - it's anemic at best. 2011 and 2010 both set records on record low new home sales. 2012 is looking to repeat that trend.
He did pass Obamacare, which the CBO just released a report will cost 800,000 jobs. Big help.
His administration limits our oil industry, limited our coal industry, and went after our airline industry.
Industries are where people work. If you want people back to work and paying taxes, you have to at least not do things that hurt industries and business.

From the PoV of the 99%, I'd agree... but are there PoVs that would disagree?Gawdzilla Sama wrote:

Image inaccessible and invisble through any tricks I know of. Do you have alternate links that would work or an IP address that one could access?Coito ergo sum wrote:
