I thought about posting that. Hasn't helped all those Chinese kids who have been attacked in the past few years, either.

You can't compare China and the USA because it supports your point. Since you're a bona fide gun nut, whatever point you try to make is automatically moot. You are wrong and crazy and dangerous and are probably rapey and should be locked up in a mental institution until you can sing all the words to Kumbaya.
Yeah well that's just, like, your opinion, man.

You really hit the nail on the head.
That one's been used. You'll need to take another tack.

What needs to be outlawed is crazy people. We used to have no problem locking unstable people up for life for severe mental instability. If psychologist / psychiatrists were held criminally responsible for failing to commit these people we would not have a problem.
A rational skeptic should be able to discuss and debate anything, no matter how much they may personally disagree with that point of view. Discussing a subject is not agreeing with it, but understanding it.

A drill bit?

Problem is, you run into this little issue of drawing the line between sane and insane. In order to do that, you'd have to take on the role of Big Brother. What's that meme about an individual who thinks an invisible being is running everthing being crazy, but thousands of people believing the same thing as being religious?

Now you're saying they can have all the guns they want, we just need laws about where you can carry them loaded?

Coito

I have been saying all along that the problem is hand guns. If you take another look at the graph I posted, see how many murders are done with hand guns and how few with other firearms in the USA.

Handguns are tools for murder. Outside of the police and the military, they have no legitimate use that could not be done better with a rifle. But hand guns have the properties of portability and being able to be easily concealed. This means that any nasty bastard can hide the gun on his person and carry it where he goes. Meaning that, in any situation where the nasty bastard gets pissed off, out comes the gun and someone is murdered.

If hand guns were outlawed by federal law, the number of such concealed and carried weapons would fall, and so would the murder rate. Passing such a law would not immediately solve the problem, since too many nasty bastards would ignore the new law. However, with the police instructed to arrest anyone carrying a hand gun, even the evil sods would become reluctant to carry one. Over time, the number of hand gun murders would drop as hand guns became harder to get.

I have no problem with people who have a legitimate need owning a rifle or shotgun. They are used for hunting or for eliminating pest animals. They are better able to hit any target than a hand gun, and thus are better for self defense in the home. The only thing they lack is the ability to hide them on your person, meaning you cannot carry one around without the police immediately noticing. Where the nasty asshole can carry a hand gun, he cannot carry a rifle.
For every human action, there is a rationalisation and a reason. Only sometimes do they coincide.

Clearly it's the Japanese cultural preference for poison gas that keeps their murder rate 3x lower than western Europe. JimC take note. If you really cared about murder victims, you'd legalize poison gas!

So true. Just look at how no one at all uses drugs in America, because they know doing so could get them arrested!

Depends how the police react. I could easily see the police being very assiduous about checking for concealed hand guns, because that would give them an excuse to arrest the gang members and other crims, because that is what the police want to do.

Something occurred to me to ask earlier. Is it legal to carry a spear or perhaps a sword, or perhaps a polarm to protect yourself in the USA? You could save a lot of money and visually advertise the fact that you have the means to inflict harm on those around you if you wished to without all the fuss and safety crap associated with guns. Hell you could fly a rebel flag on the end of a polarm if you wanted to! No amulintion costs either. Plus you get some exercise while defending yourself! Win win!

Do you see much of this sort of thing over there?

Same is true for drugs, actually.

You seem to have missed the point about why concealed carry laws only protect concealed weapons.

You'd be shocked to know, Rum, that you could go years at a time here in the States without seeing any sort of weapon. I know that is a shock, given what folks in Yerup seem to think goes on here, but it is true. I have driven to work unarmed every day of my life, and made it safely each time I tried it.
