I think it's easy to overestimate the seriousness of Ahmadinejad's rhetoric if you don't keep in mind his status as a Twelver in a country in which the Twelver ideology and eschatology is the norm.
Personally, I would welcome a war with Iran. Nip it in the bud before it goes nuclear, pave an asphalt road from the nearest U.S. controlled airstrip or port directly to Tehran, roll in there and install the puppet pseudo-democracy of our choosing.
