Movies that Can't Be Remade

Post by Coito ergo sum » Mon Jul 30, 2012 7:32 pm

Class --- starring Rob Lowe and Andrew McCarthy with Jacqueline Bisset.

Story: Jacqueline Bisset is a rich housewife. Her son Rob Lowe goes to an exclusive, wealthy boarding school. Andrew McCarthy is an innocent midwestern hayseed who has a hard time fitting in at the boarding school. Rob Lowe sends him off to Chicago to get laid, and loosen him up a little bit. As luck would have it, McCarthy meets Jacqueline Bisset at a bar and she saves him after he was being embarrassed by some other women. McCarthy, 17 years old, and Bisset, Rob Lowes mom, start a torrid affair. He finds out who she is when he is invited by Lowe to their house over Christmas and they encounter each other by surprise.

Can't be made today, given the different cultural mindset over teenage sex.

Any other movies that were made "back in the day" that would have to be substantially rewritten to make it past the PC wall these days?

There was a film, damned if I can remember the name.

Two teenagers on a martha's vineyard type island for the summer hols.
Period is just post war; woman alone on the island gets news her husband, in the military has died; turns to one of the bys for solace and has an 'affair'

Other boy is trying to rustle-up some same age females. etc.
and succeeds first boy can't close the deal

rite of passage type film.

Female lead is/was minor star.
Porbably 70's film.

Can't be made in Hollywod, maybe not in the USA. Try France, or Spain, or Sweden, Finland... almost anywhere in Europe :bored:

Well, what gave me the idea for the thread was a comment one of our European Ratzians made in another thread, about Woody Allen and his now wife Soon Yi -- he referred to an affair between Allen and the (depending on who you talk to) either teenage or 20 year old Soon Yi as "pedophilic." So, I'm not sure that the attitudes are all that different. But, if you say so, I will retitle the thread "Movies that Can't be Remade, in the Awful Merka [spit spit, sneer sneer]"

Any film requiring concentration for more than two minutes and lacking an action scene, preferably with several killings, once every seven minutes.

I went to a Shakespeare in the Park performance of Romeo and Juliet. Some folks brought their little kids, and they were miffed by all the killings.... I was like, "what play did you think you were coming to see?"

Casablanca - because I would kill the producer, the director and the entire cast (although perhaps only through the medium of a particularly scathing post in a site that they would almost certainly never get to see!)

Coito, how is the situation in the OP any worse than that dude diddling Stiffler's mom?

I don't think PCness is limiting our film options as much as you suspect.
