I guess that it was partly that he wanted to distance himself from the forum. The request was made in the context of personal attacks on him actually. He suggested it was "A simple solution".

And personally, if he's bothered by personal attacks, he'd probably do well not to practice them so much, it seems to me. Something about "heat" and a "kitchen" comes to mind.

Maybe. But since we do not delete accounts, even if the person was the only permaban ever for causing real life distress to a woman, he's still a member unless mod consensus says otherwise.

That's entirely possible, I suppose, but isn't a suspended membership still entitled to protection from personal attacks here?

Personally, I think it's just more intolerance on his part for any message which he personally dislikes in the Freethought Community® . To extend his cockroach metaphor, it would appear that he's afraid to turn on the light at all. Perhaps he thinks the darkness here is impenetrable. Perhaps he's afraid that he'll be horrified by how many "cockroaches" he sees.

Or perhaps he's afraid he'll see his face on every chitin-wrapped body.

Or perhaps he realizes that the lights are already on, and his meager bulb will appear to be insignificant.

The point is, no one will know, because he, and only he, is refusing to discuss this. There are plenty here ready and willing to have decent and civil discourse on this matter.

Refusing to expose your arguments to searching examination is to my mind an indication that you believe they cannot survive scrutiny. His refusal to do so leaves me with that impression: he knows his PC-run-amok bullshit is bullshit, but he's between the Devil and the Deep Blue Sea -- on the one hand, if he admits that his argument is vapid in the face of tolerance of unpleasant expression, he loses the (assumed) support of Skepchicks. On the other hand, if he defends his position here, he will be defending the principle that only Approved Expression is tolerable.

Either way, he loses credibility, and support.

Ergo, his request is a calculated move aimed at damage control, with perhaps the hope you've mentioned that he can perhaps play the Victim card as a bonus.

In any event, it's pretty good evidence that he's playing politics with his views, and that's never a good thing, tailoring one's views to the audience, rather than standing and falling on principle.
