Hey Seth, Would you engage the shooter if it was difficult to see from the tear gas he had tossed in the theater? If your eyesight was compromised wouldn't that mean you might accidentally hit someone else while aiming for the shooter? I'm curious if you would shoot no matter what, or decide based on other factors?

Easy headshot from 10-20 feet away. Just aim at the guy wearing the gas mask. I'm quite confident that Seth could have pulled it off.

That's just a "rule", like not bringing in outside food. All they can do is ask you to leave. Though in this case the city had laws against CCW.

You still have the problem of the guy's full body armour to get around. It's not a simple case of just shooting him. You would have to make it count if you don't want the gun turned on you and with armour those weak points are limited and small. You really are just better off running in these cases and getting yourself to safety. I agree that in cases where someone pulls a gun and you're in a position to shoot you should but this isn't always an option and I don't believe it was here.

Two of the people killed were trained soldiers. I'm not sure how a no gun rule policy is enforced in a private business, I would presume a metal detector would be in place?
Anyway it makes all this hero posturing from commentators here moot if they couldn't of had a gun anyway.

There are places that have metal detectors and bag searches, but the vast majority of your public accommodation type places such as movie theaters and shopping malls just post a sign on the door that says they prohibit firearms.

As the people who control the property, they have that right. Firearm owners like me who carry with respect to property rights and the law either do not go there or do not take our firearms. Despite what people have said about 'gun nuts' in this thread (and elsewhere on the Internet, in the media and on the sidewalk) most of us are also the kind of people who take property rights very seriously and while we may disagree with and try to convince businesses not to have such policies, we also respect their right to have such a policy and we then choose to either disarm or not enter the property.

I carry a .45 subcompact. Yes, it's less rounds than my 9mm has for capacity, but I've determined that it's the right choice for me because it provides sufficient stopping power, I am well practiced with it (shot placement is very important), it is rather easy to conceal and comfortable to carry, and my larger, bulkier 9mm is lacking in that regard.

The choice of a carry firearm is going to vary from individual to individual, but ultimately what is most important is that the person is carrying a firearm that they are very familiar and comfortable with, that they practice with regularly, and that they are proficient at using and shooting.

The seven-round clip was a big hit in 1911. It took the 9mm to make it seem inadequate.

One good thing I will say about the US is that they might have a shit attitude to guns, but they make shit weapons to match.
