The guy who bought the rounds was a retired Marine, and he bought lots of ammo every month, and rifles as needed. (The barrels tend to wear down after thousands of rounds.) He never flipped out, never did anything stupid with a gun. He could also kill you with a rolled up newspaper. Tim McVeigh killed more people than this guy and didn't use a gun. He used fertilizer and diesel fuel.

Actually, it's the kinetic energy imparted by the impingement of the bullet onto the target mass.

Blood loss kills people. And neurological disruption. They're the real culprits here. :lay:

Money worries set more people off than anything....I'm wondering what will happen once American austerity arrives? :zig:

Most will soldier on, but with fewer toys. There will be less waste in this country, something I approve of.

Heh, my dad told me to buy a box of .22 at the hardware in FL. Would not sell. Sold them to him. Neither had permit. Late '70s.

You don't need a permit to buy ammo, IIRC. I bought a fair amount of ammo in FLA back in the late '70s.

What did I know? I tried to shoot snakes and turtles in dad's fish pond, commercial. It was hard, I am right handed and left eyed.

I've taught folks like you before. I could maybe get you hitting the 8 ring with a little work.

If the victims could shoot back there would be less of an advantage.
Well, if "heavy return fire" was going to happen, it would be in America, not Europe or Australia. In cases I have heard about recently, including this one, there seems to be no evidence of armed civilians returning fire, and preventing a massacre (or at least reducing its extent).

This idea of armed civilians saving lives by using their weapons is one of the main arguments used by proponents of the US gun ownership thing, and yet, broadly speaking, it seems to be a myth...
It is possible that those events are unnewsworthy. Some guy pulls a gun but is quickly shot by a nearby armed citizen.
I don't think so. We adore heroes, it would be very newsworthy. Especially by a conservative newspaper or agency. Our small town has a local paper, and they even write about shots being fired in the night.
Atheists have always argued that this world is all that we have, and that our duty is to one another to make the very most and best of it. ~Christopher Hitchens~
