Re: Inflation at the Grocery Store
I don't buy that kind of stuff very often. Generally too expensive and too unhealthy. But occasionally, sure. Sounds like, uh...I won't be buying anything any time soon, though.Coito ergo sum wrote:Have you folks checked out the deli counter lately?
Flippin' bologna was $6.99 per pound! And, if you want anything good, like roast beef, it's $10.99 per pound minimum. Even cooked ham is $8.99 per pound.
Funny thing is, hot dogs seem to be cheaper lately. I bought a package for the first time in a long time to go in my homemade baked beans, and was surprised how reasonably priced they were. Either that or they were as expensive es ever but high prices don't faze me anymore because I'm so used to them now

Listening to the radio today I heard some talking head gas on about how the price of corn has already doubled, but that it is not a cause for concern as the cost increase will probably not be passed on to consumers.

Certainly food prices have risen here as well. I agree with CES about the prevalence of food from China at some super-markets, or prawns from Thailand or whatever...

It is gonna be cheaper to crash the dollar very soon. Everyone around the world is paying so 'mericans can live in a business-as-usual illusion. Time of decisions, you won't find it easy to escape the collapse once it is underway. Leave the big city. You can't wait this kind of disaster out in a concrete desert. My advice is to follow the rain...but don't come here, this lifeboat is full.

I buy bulk burger and chicken at Sam's and divide it up and freeze it. We can get ten meals out of a ten pound tube of 90% burger and we usually split a chicken breast, with sides it makes a meal.

5 years ago, my usual lager was 42cents a pint can. Now, it's 64 cents. I sure hope we don't have another grain crisis, because one thing I know is that once the stores have had an excuse to ratchet the prices up, they never come down.

Drought from Canada to Kansas, your grain supply will be affected as people compete for the grain that did manage to grow.Svartalf wrote:5 years ago, my usual lager was 42cents a pint can. well, at least some of the corn that is grown as fuel crop might be redirected for its natural purpose.

Oz to the rescue! Looks like a good grain crop this year here, and a bit of a shortage world-wide pushes the price up. Our farmers happy...Gawdzilla Sama wrote:Drought from Canada to Kansas, your grain supply will be affected as people compete for the grain that did manage to grow.Svartalf wrote:5 years ago, my usual lager was 42cents a pint can. It'll be alright. Watch meet prices to spot approaching famine though. Maybe Oz can help...I'd not gamble with fifty-fifty odds on such a empty stomach...it's a better idea to get a ticket out of the dark night of the soul....choices....choices....before theofascists make hay.

The king size bar of Hershey's Special Dark is the same size in length and width as it was several years ago, but it's definitely thinner today while the price hasn't changed much.

To save money you might grow a garden on your lawn (or, for you English, a garden in your garden
), like these people did.
