A sign of the times to come. Too much violence in the media. The youth are trained in murder simulators to shoot and kill. People in America are then surprised when they do?

Bushwalla. People see less live violence today than they did a century ago.Atheist-Lite wrote:A sign of the times to come. Too much violence in the media. The youth are trained in murder simulators to shoot and kill. People in America are then surprised when they do?

You can be sure that anybody who starts shooting is a highly trained expert, not some sad wanker who is hoping for a chance to be a big man. Sad wankers are not attracted to weapons. We know that.
I've often thought, after some mild altercation with a stranger, why on earth didn't someone pull out a gun and threaten him, instead of agreeing to differ. It's just political correctness gone mad.
I'm sure the dead people from the cinema would be horrified if it ever came about that you couldn't carry and own guns. They might be dead, but at least they're dead free.

Sounds like the sort of well-balanced opinion I'd expect from someone ho has clearly met and conversed with many a gun owner, and particularly CCW holders.

Re: Gunman Shooting at Dark Knight Rises Screening.
I was sad when I found out... mostly because I was at a premiere myself last night, came home, and was awake and blissfully remembering the movie unaware that this was happening at the same time.
Movie theaters are where people go to suspend their belief, and let themselves be vulnerable to the emotions and actions of those onscreen; a refuge from the real world. For someone to take advantage of that to willfully kill and harm others makes me really sad.

All around me darkness gathers, fading is the sun that shone; We must speak of other matters: You can be me when I'm gone...

He entered through an exit door and was silhouetted against light. The firing need not have been wild.PordFrefect wrote:In this situation, at least, someone in the crowd deciding to fire back would probably not have been of any help. In fact, it is more likely that they would injure or kill people in the crowd than the gunman. Firing wildly in his general direction would not deter someone who was so obviously prepared, both physically and mentally, for this attack.
That said, the tear gas would likely have made it difficult to approach to within accurate pistol range.

I'd like to see the theater chain sued for negligence. They had rules which prevented lawful concealed weapons holders from bring their weapon into the theater. This action potentially cost many people their lives, and the company should be held accountable for it.
A rational skeptic should be able to discuss and debate anything, no matter how much they may personally disagree with that point of view. Discussing a subject is not agreeing with it, but understanding it.

Stay away from violent pictures, this joker will inspire his copycats.

If the shooter knew he would draw heavy return fire, would that have stopped him? Maybe, maybe not, but he was, I suspect, fucking nuts, so counter-fire would not have been an issue. However, criminals often use guns to gain an advantage over their victims. If the victims could shoot back there would be less of an advantage.

It's not long ago that some Christian fundie got killed playing with rattlesnakes.
The reaction was much amusement on this forum.
This is basically the same thing. If you worship the ownership of guns, and choose violence and slaughter for your entertainment, then loonies are going to go on a killing spree on regular occasions.
People make me laugh when they say " I just want to know why ".
The motive is different every time, but the fundamentals are the same. The guns are widely available, and the power fantasy is inherited in most people, to some degree or other. And the fantasy is fed by the movie and tv industry.
And yet, there are still massacres! It's a mystery. I just want to know. "why?".

About the only positive thing about people having concealed weapons, is that it makes the use of replica guns a suicidal waste of time.Gawdzilla Sama wrote:If the shooter knew he would draw heavy return fire, would that have stopped him? So anybody thinking about armed crime should pay the extra and get a real gun.
You know it makes sense.
