German Court Rules Circumcision is "Bodily Harm"

Case came up after a circumcision on a 4 year old boy led to medical complications. Female circumcision is illegal in Germany but male not. Judge has ruled that children have a right to "physical integrity" that is more important than the religious rights of the parents. Obviously, some religious groups are not happy - it undermines the right of religious commuities to self-determination, apparently.

The ruling isn't binding but could be taken into account in future court cases.

Hear, hear, I say! Let the individual make an informed decision on this kind of thing when they are old enough, rather than having potentially hazardous cosmetic surgery and attendant religious identity forced on them when they know no better.

I can't believe that no disgruntled jew hasn't taken his parents and the rabbi who nicked his pullover to court for damages. That's what it needs, it's money that changes minds. Just like with the catholics and the child abuse. The pope only got apologetic when they began to lose money.
