How to further lessen the value of a human being.
Inspired by a discussion about virtual porn elsewhere:
In the not too distant future movies will be made entire inside a computer. "Actors" will be based on humans who do nothing but allow their bodies to be scanned and give a voice sample. (And this will die off as well the "libraries" of actors can be mixed-and-matched to produce "new" actors.) This will reduce the humans to the role of "floggers", hitting the TV shows to promote the new film.
While this will no doubt make for some spectacular movies (Jutland, for example, would be made to seem like you're there) the last vestiges of humanity would be gone from the business.
Is this a good thing or a bad thing, or just a thing we'll learn to live with?

I thought we were already doing that.

Technology replacing the human workforce? Naaaaaaw, that'll never happen. We destroy those broadlooms as fast as the factory owners can install them. More importantly, we boycott all products made by those fiendish tools! That'll stop this nonsense quicksmart. No point in manufacturing something that nobody will buy, is there?

The decline will continue at a steady pace until the machines realize they don't need us any more, then the curve will steepen.Hermit wrote:Technology replacing the human workforce? Can't happen with that total boycott in place.Gawdzilla Sama wrote:The decline will continue at a steady pace until the machines realize they don't need us any more, then the curve will steepen.Hermit wrote:Technology replacing the human workforce? Total boycotts won't work, someone will always decide to make a profit off the situation and betray his/her own species.Hermit wrote:Can't happen with that total boycott in place.Gawdzilla Sama wrote:The decline will continue at a steady pace until the machines realize they don't need us any more, then the curve will steepen.Hermit wrote:Technology replacing the human workforce? Outside the ordered universe is that amorphous blight of nethermost confusion which blasphemes and bubbles at the center of all infinity—the boundless daemon sultan Azathoth, whose name no lips dare speak aloud, and who gnaws hungrily in inconceivable, unlighted chambers beyond time and space amidst the muffled, maddening beating of vile drums and the thin monotonous whine of accursed flutes.

You don't think he was being overly-speciesistic in objecting to one kind of animal being eaten while just about every other kind is on the table?
