President Obama’s attempt to invoke executive privilege to forestall contempt-of-Congress proceedings against Attorney General Eric H. Holder Jr. failed. Instead, the claim elevates the dispute between the administration and Capitol Hill to a new and troubling level. The operative question now is, what did the president know and when did he know it?

The reason this scandal matters is three-fold. First, when the U.S. government puts firearms in the hands of drug lords and hundreds of people die—including American border patrol agents, we should care. Maybe they would have been killed by non-US guns anyway, but we will never know. Second, our government has no business giving out guns in order to track them. This is a terrible, terrible, terrible policy and the fact that it went horribly wrong was infinitely foreseeable. Third, anytime the Congress, whether it is Ds questioning wiretapping or Rs questioning a program to provide guns to drug dealers, takes back its power from the Executive, we should favor it. Legislative bodies are known to be much less tyrannical than executives.
Releasing the documents of gunrunning to Mexico isn’t going to hurt national security. This is simply about saving someone’s ass.

I generally in favor of Legislative power but I'm specifically not happy with my government in general. Because the Legislative branch has so much more chance to have moderates and smart people, I blame it the most.

If I was Holder I'd turn over all the dox on ongoing investigations and then inform them they're all under intense, personal, invasive surveillance until all the cases are closed because they saw secret case documents and haven't been sworn in as officers of the court. And have a ten-man FBI interrogation team go after them and their entire staffs and spouses and everything every time there was the slightest hint of a leak.

The Washington Times is a paper with an important sounding name, but it's actually created, owned and run by the moonies. They've never made a penny from it, it's cost them a billion to run, but they use it to push the right-wing message.
Nice choice for a truthful source.

Hey, you sure got smart quick. Correct, if the
Washington Times printed the Sun came up this morning, I'd check it out for myself before I believed it and still not use them as a source. For anything. Ever. They lie like a mattress.

And Coito's other source appears to be a tea-party blog.

Wince. They'll say
anything as long as it helps lynch the scary black man in the White House. Err, umm, oh, sorry, I mean "disqualify that... ummm, Kenyan terror monkey, from being President, for not being a natcheral born citizen."

Maybe he mistakes indifference for stupidity.
