actually, judging from some of the posts in this thread, it would appear to be the latter.

Fuck, even an idiot like Newt fucking Gingrich knows this shit:

Our struggle is not against actual corrupt individuals, but against those in power in general, against their authority, against the global order and the ideological mystification which sustains it.

I'd never argue that some things couldn't be adjusted, but that's a sidestep. Prove how it's worse in the US than anywhere - that's the unbiased thing you said. Maybe you can start with a comparison to elections in Russia a few months ago.

How is that a "sidestep" ? What are you talking about? I will retract "worse than anywhere". "As bad as anywhere" is what I meant to say.

Never thought I'd see the day!

(It was a sidestep to mention a problem with US electioneering without putting it in context of how that makes them more rigged than anywhere. My office building has a garage with tight parking spaces, an overpriced cafeteria and some work spaces in dire need of new carpet - that doesn't make it the worst office anywhere.)

I'll also meet you partway by saying I think elections in the US have some significant problems (gerrymandering, attractions towards partisanship, Citizens United and undue influence on capmaign finance by the rich, etc.). Some of these problems are as bad as anywhere else.

Are you serious? I am always more willing to change a statement if shown to be incorrect than a lot of regulars on this forum. I could name names but I don't think there's a point.
