I somehow don't think manned missions will extend beyond this little solar system's inner planets in my lifetime.

So, would you want to spend your entire life in a skyscraper in Louisiana? You'd never get to go outside, you'd have no future, no expansion, unless you were the last generation on the ship. And there would be the problem of mission drift. How long before "the goal" becomes to keep the panels shiny rather than get to another star.

If I could spend the second half of my life gazing upon views of the stars that no human has seen before, I'd put up with the rest. That's expansion, in my book. I may not make it to the next habitable ecosystem, but I'd be helping send others to it. Fine with me. I've only got a short time left, anyway.
