Has anyone mentioned a good old fashioned world war?

One every 30-40 years or so should serve as an excellent check against unrestrained population growth not to mention the boost to the economy.

Doesnt work at least with conventional warfare, it simply doesnt kill enough people to make any difference to population growth (now disease is a different matter).
It is great however for reducing crime, with all the young men abroad killing everything in site they arent at home doing it

Plague is definitely the way to go. Avian flu in China wiping out 4/5 of the population would be a good place to start.

The first two didn't do anything to curb global populations. Just a drop in the bucket. No reason to think a third would have any greater effect.

A mysterious disease that progressively destroys womens' fertility after each childbirth would be the most painless way.

I believe they made a movie about that, starring Clive Owen called "Children of Men."

Quite a bleak prospect.

How about those of you who care to complain about human overpopulation and seek to impose restrictions on the reproductive rights of others do the planet a favor and go out to your front lawns right now and slit your bellies in shame? That would improve the situation immediately.

That's called "walking the walk" rather than just mouthing platitudes and whining in hypocrisy.

I'm pretty sure most of the people in the thread are talking about removing subsidies. Or do you consider that a restriction?

Still what to know what these subsidies are for having kids, can't stand them myself but if someone is paying enough well a spare biologically compatible kidney is always useful

I'm all for removing subsidies, as I said, of every kind. But that seems to be particularly hypocritical of the socialists in the group, given that socialism is all about subsidies. What it says to me is that they want more subsidies for themselves, and less for people with kids, which smacks of classic Socialist selfishness. This also ignores the fact that children are the only resource that keeps the human race going, and evidently Socialists are so selfish that if they aren't given subsidies they don't procreate, which is why, for example, France is offering something like $3000 per child plus a three-year maternity leave job guarantee for mothers.

The real problem is nationalism. Most Socialists are also nationalists, and they want THEIR country to maintain birth rates, but they want OTHER countries to "control" their populations.

True Socialists would be happy for France or England to be depopulated by lack of children if that meant more Socialist children in Africa or the Middle East.

In the end, everyone will be either Catholic or Muslim, since they are the two population segments that are the only ones who are continuing to flourish.

Everybody else, including Socialists and Environmental whackos are going to not-breed themselves into extinction...and they won't be missed at all.

That would be nice too.

I have been married twice and had a child from each. That makes three adults making two babies. The way to go.

Your genes are still in two kids. It's only your wives that helped reduce the population.

Think harder. Here, I'll help:

My wife and I have our third kid on the way. However, neither of my two best friends has kids, nor does the wife of the one who is married.

So that's five adults having three kids. I'm reducing the world population by having three kids!
