Best place to see it if you can't see it direct: http://events.slooh.com/ - Live feeds from various telescopes along with commentary/radio broadcast and interviews with other scientists etc.

Rough start, but the skies sorta halfway cleared up a bit...some early results from the ingress...

I shot a little video, too. Don't know how to post it, tho. Now I'm going back to the roof...

Thanks, FF! Bummer about your skies. Looked that way earlier here, too. I may not be able to get any finer resolution than this in still shots, but if I can figure out how to upload the video, it'll be clearer.

They were warbling on about this on the news earlier. Why is this a deal? Just because it's rare or is there some scignificance to it?

Just because it's not going to happen again in our lifetimes, I suppose. I don't know of any other significance.

Transits of Venus are very rare, separated by more than a hundred years. There have been 53 transits since 2000 B.C., but only six have been witnessed since the invention of the telescope in 1608. These rare events occur in pairs, with the first transit occurring June 8, 2004. The next opportunity won't be until Dec. 10 and 11, 2117.

Grey and drizzly here - I forced myself to wake up and look out at sunrise (which was not a pleasant time of day this morning) but no chance.

Thanks for the pics, FBM! I'll maybe catch it next time... :sigh: :hehe:
