Prince Charles is legally allowed to do and say stupid things until the moment he comes king. Then he can't even sneeze without permission of the government.

While not big royality it does act as a good anti libertarian symbol, reminding people that their rights and freedoms come from being part of something bigger themselves ie their country and you don't get a choice in being part of it (while residing in the country anyway)

Even so, it's still a vestige that costs the tax payer over 200 million each year. That's 118 times the expense to maintain the Irish, ceremonial presidency. It's certainly not 50p per person per year, and no other public expenditure is disingenuously sweetened in that way.
