The German Empire invading Belgium and France, most unwisely, since those two were allies of the British Empire. The Ottoman Empire throwing its weight in hoping to take over Persia.

The trigger for WWI was the assassination of Grand Duke Ferdinand of the Austro-Hungarian Empire. But just the trigger.

Russia and Britain were not allies before the war, but became allies once the war was under way. The Ottoman Empire chose to ally itself with A.H. and the Germans after the war began.

There were a lot of people behind those empires. Not just royal families. A lot of territorial ambition. A lot of national pride. A lot of stupidity. Calling it squabbling royal families is kinda missing the point.

Well, I wasn't trying to analyse WW1 in a single sentence. I did kind of have a feeling that more people might be involved than just the Royals.
I was just saying what would have put me off fighting.
