Re: Tero's Atheist Ramblings
Amazon poster Mohammed is king of ad hominem:
"You're wrong and I'm right because you're fat."(1)
"You're wrong and I'm right because you are anonymous."
"You're wrong and I'm right because you are a woman."
"You're wrong and I'm right because I publish books"
The latter shouldn't be (but is often) combined with:
"You're not right just because you publish books."
(1) this came up because of sleep apnea someone else had, he said they were fat

Fundies say the darnest things
In reply to an earlier post on May 16, 2012 7:52:37 AM PDT
Stormegeddon says:
"In the beginning (time) God created (power) the Heaven (space) and
the Earth (matter)... And the Spirit of God moved (motion) upon the
face of the waters."
ErikR says:
I don't think you're going to find many other people that think that
5-dimensional space is made up of:
-Time
-Power
-Space
-Matter
-Motion
Can you provide some science to back this up?

at amazon discussion:
Bible has facts, claim 5 posters.
Cuvtixo says:
" And there is a lot of guesswork in science, too."
Michael Altarriba says:Could you be more specific?

I may have seen this before
"Surely it's been said here before that debating a creationist is like playing chess with a pigeon. The pigeon knocks over one of your pieces, poops on the board, and flies off imagining he has won the game.."

I think that implies way too much cognition on the part of the other party.Tero wrote:I may have seen this before

Catch of the day:
I think he means that evolution = one species giving rise to another. You know, like a bird hatching from a reptile egg.

Catch of the day:
"The existence of mysterious force is inevitable unless you could
explain how your brain dreams, thinks, and does things against your
will.
Try to shut down your brain such that you do not dream, not breathe,
not think. You will fail on each account. That implies that you are
haunted by mysterious forces. "

It's getting a little difficult for me to not turn away from blatherings like the above. The tedium of it...

Re: Tero's Atheist Ramblings
Fundie gets cute ad hominem thrown at him:
Well, to borrow an example from the 90's or so, the creationists are like Pokemon's Team Rocket. They are always trying the same tricks to catch Pikachu even though they keep getting hit by the same devastating Thunderbolt attack. Creationists keep using the same arguments even though they have been completely devastated by the multiple lines of evidence.

Re: Tero's Atheist Ramblings
denialist has geology problem
because its guessing
because its guessing
Deckard says:
Hewie said: (all the quotes)
"Let's just call them geology."
Let's not. They work together.
"When biologists, who flocked out of math and physics discipline in
order to enjoy the comfort of concrete descriptive sciences,"
Why don't you try to figure out out how the immune system or the brain
works instead of just reverting to juvenile insults. And we won't
mention who here flocked out of teaching math to teach weightlifting.
"borrow geological guessing of the time-scale of earth composition"
Stop trying to sound intelligent. There is not much guessing about the
time scale with the advent of radiometric dating.
"for the sake of reconstructing biological time-scale, I feel unease."
Ignorance often breeds unease. Paleontologists and stratigraphers
understand these things. If you don't like the pure academic side,
then go talk to oil geologists.
"The assumption that biological life developed in parallel with
geological time-scale is too simplistic."
Go learn something about geology. Please.
"Endospores can stay dormant for millions of years. Likewise many
unicellular organisms form capsules that live as long as the
environment remains unfit for germination.
Therefore, the assumption that we could linearly retrace the origin of
life on the geological time-scale misses the deterministic power of
organisms to rise and sleep according to internal mysterious codes,
too complex for biologists to reconstruct by mere geological
extrapolation."
It's not extrapolation, it's called looking at fossils. You know,
evidence and facts. Oh, wait, you don't know. I guess that's why Dick
likes to jump to your defense.

Re: Tero's Atheist Ramblings
creaionist comes up with 5 Amazon IDs to post in the same forum
You might be right. Maybe you can answer a question that I've had since I started reading here. What is up with both of these odd nicknames? "Evolutionists block posts they fear the most" is the same guy as "Blocked posts = evolutionist censorship", or am I wrong? Are they two different guys who just happen to share the same obsession and write exactly the same way?
But you are also calling him "Largo" and "Falconetti" and others. Does this guy have multiple accounts and he's posting under all these names on the same thread? What could possibly be his motivation? Of course, considering that he hasn't really engaged anyone honestly --- that I have seen --- who knows why he does what he does?

Re: Tero's Atheist Ramblings
Lawnmower wheel broke. Went to our neighborhood Jesus mower repair place:

Jesus had 4 guys working today. They did not have the wheel, but directed me to a place twice as far that had it.

Somehow that seems like a metaphor for religion, in a nutshell.

Atheists have always argued that this world is all that we have, and that our duty is to one another to make the very most and best of it. ~Christopher Hitchens~
