White folks who own guns are, by and large, law abiding citizens peaceably exercising their right to keep and bear arms.

Living in slums might be a reason to own guns.

Guesswork. Also, people are not that different. A tree hugger a gun nut, a soccer mom or a birder all fit my preconceived idea, and I almost never have to change my opinion.
