Germany poured trillions of DM into the former East Germany to keep it afloat after reunification.... and they still managed to keep their economy in good shape compared to the rest of Europe.

Actually, former East Germany replaced Poland and Turkey as cheap labor source for some years after reunification, and since most of the money poured in was to improve infrastructure and whatnot, which mostly went to German companies, getting EG up to the level of the rest of the country was kind of a giant economic stimulus, the kind the country hadn't seen since the Marshall Plan for reconstruction, or the Nazi works program before that.

Nothing to contribute here except a song.

People think "queue" is just "q" followed by 4 silent letters.

But those letters are not silent.

They're just waiting their turn.

The Lutherans are same as ever. Years ago I bought stuff with cash, as small stores did not take cash. After Germans got debit cards they were happy with them. No borrowing if you can avoid it.

They should have had a West German austerity program instead. :{D
What I've found with a few discussions I've had lately is this self-satisfaction that people express with their proffessed open mindedness. In realty it ammounts to wilful ignorance and intellectual cowardice as they are choosing to not form any sort of opinion on a particular topic. Basically "I don't know and I'm not going to look at any evidence because I'm quite happy on this fence."

The day the price of Sauerkraut and Bratwurst rises one cent a pound will be when an irate mob will behead Merkel and parade her head atop of a pike.

Those weren't fire bombs... they were fertilizer bombs.
