Your region's "best" TV and radio?

Post by Gawdzilla Sama » Sun May 20, 2012 1:50 pm

I can say happily that "Eureka" is one of the best shows going on TV in the US. We also follow "Sons of Anarchy", but only when it's in commercial-free format.

As for radio, Ayaan listens to NPR, I listen to the "multi-era" stations, 70's to today.

Whatcha got?

Best TV channel? BBC4, even though it's only on air from 7pm each night.
Second best TV channel? BBC2

As for the rest, I have a few sports channels which are OK (and reasonably cheap) - ESPN, Eurosport and Setanta Ireland.

I'm afraid the specialised documentary channels (including Discovery and History) are mostly rubbish nowadays.

Do you get the US-based docus or are you speaking of UK-generated versions? If the former, I heartily agree.

Almost certainly the former. The History Channel in particular has completely gone to the dogs.

Not sure why klr is mentioning UK TV and radio when his region is Ireland.

The best Irish radio station is Newstalk, particularly Sean Moncrieff.

The best TV program is ptobably...em.... :dunno:

The Savage Eye is ok I guess.

I was referring to the region, sloppily. My bad.

But the Beeb is much more accessible there than it is here, correct? Just trying to find a less nebulous boundary to "region".

The world is our region if we talk about what we have access to.

Your best national radio and TV would be better.

We only get one channel of Beeb here, and it's mostly cooking. :sigh:

When I’m in the car I listen to Radio Scotland (very parochial – I love it!) and Radio nan Gàidheal (very parochial, and in a language understood by about 60,000 folk in the world – I love it too!)

I watch BBC news on the telly, and never ITV, which is tabloid shit. I watch fitba on any channel (including BBC Alba – the Gaelic one), and if it’s ITV I always turn the sound off when the adverts come on. (And if I haven’t managed to do that in time, and the Go Compare man comes on, I run screaming from the room.)

I occasionally watch a documentary on BBC2 or BBC4. The recent mini-series by Mary Beard about the daily life of the ancient Romans was quite jolly.
Pray, do not mock me: I am a very foolish fond old man; And, to deal plainly, I fear I am not in my perfect mind.

Blah blah blah blah blah!

Memo to self: no Lir chocolates.

Life is glorious.

I don't know...probably. Why we haven't banned Fox in California yet is beyond me.

That would leave us with just 4 stations, of which RTE 2 is the best by far.

I certainly don't see any problem in including other stations that are accessible (and watched) by the majority of the population. They are a de facto part of our viewing menu IMHO.

Given the range of channels available within the USA v. here, it hardly seems fair to compare based on strict "national" criteria alone.
