Hot under the collar?mistermack wrote:Firstly, I can't believe some people take it so seriously.Robert_S wrote:Mistermack, how would you characterize "mad for it" in this context? How much do they have to be into it before they cross the line into madnes. I don't think anyone here is saying that those who insult the martial arts need to be executed for example.
Surely martial-arts people, of any group, should know that it's sticks and stones that break bones. And words can never hurt them. They claim that they have a heightened awareness of that, but don't show any sign of it.
Nor any sign of the increased ability to walk away from trouble. If a perceived slight on a chat site gets them so hot under the collar.
I don't think so. I just call them as I see them. It's only the internet. I've walked away several times IRL.
Because you're both equally ignorant about the subject. It's normal people who take it up. You'll find wankers in any group, including normal ones, but among students of martial arts, they tend to be the minority, mainly because it requires discipline, and you need to learn to take it as well as dish it out. This tends to weed out the wankers.mistermack wrote:My offending post was :Now why would the Home Secretary ban the guy, if it was just sound, sensible people who took it up?mistermack wrote:I made the point earlier that there would be nothing wrong with martial arts, if it was sound, sensible, balanced people who took it up. The problem is that it's always the unbalanced wankers who go mad for it.
Does she do these things for fun? Do they piss themselves laughing in the Home Office, when they ban someone? Or is there a GOOD reason that I've somehow missed?
Generalisations usually tend to be wrong. You have made nothing but generalisations in this thread, based on ignorance and prejudice. Pardon me for pointing out your mistake. I tried politely at first, it didn't work. I suspect nothing will.
Obviously. You profess ignorance, then pontificate with generalisations without a shred of evidence to support them. I have met very few martial artists who I would classify as wankers. The vast majority are just people who share an interesting hobby that is fun, keeps them fit, exercises their brain as well as their muscles, and which may someday turn out to be useful. Though we hope that day will never come.mistermack wrote:This country bans carrying guns. Why would they, if it was sound, sensible people who carried them?
They ban them because of unbalanced wankers getting hold of them.
Or is there something ELSE I've missed?
