History, related in the present tense! ARGH!

Post by Rum » Tue May 15, 2012 3:35 pm

Was in the car listening to Radio 4 earlier and there was a programme with a section about the 1812 wars with America, Napoleon and so on. The 'expert' did what you very often hear and which drives me bonkers. He was saying things like 'Napoleon's forces are stretched in Russia as the British fight on two fronts, meanwhile in America privateers are harassing the British fleet off the Canadian coast'..etc.

It happened in the past! The past has a tense ! Its called the PAST TENSE!

Use it you retarded people! AGHRRR!

"At this point in time Napoleon's forces are..." That's valid.

You haven't got enough to be annoyed about
"I grow old … I grow old …
I shall wear the bottoms of my trousers rolled"

AND MERRY XMAS TO ONE AND All!

Oh I got it alright. I read Ms English Major's sentences very carefully as they often carry hidden meaning and significance... :bored:
